can we talk leaves?

Since I am making my Flower Garden quilt with repros I have to work a bit harder to let the fabrics do the work for me
I don't have the collection of big bright bold prints that you find in the Amy Butler, Kaffe, Brandon Mabley, Philip Jacobs so many of the Free Spirit designers..
but I do have WONDERFUL REPRODUCTION FABRICS!
just look at these two....

no I didn't want one leaf of each...hmm what to do?
lets sew the fabrics together

are you wondering why didn't I just place the leaf right down the middle of the seam???
well think of that seam allowance I don't want that under that little stem AND are leaves perfect in nature? No!

So do you like my leaves now????

I have a feeling I will be making my own fabric pieces for quite a few things on this quilt, won't that be fun?
Off to the Lancaster quilt show tomorrow in search for bright reproduction fabrics and getting to visit with again....
Sujata from The Root Connection blog! Looking forward to it AND seeing her quilt in the show.

Splitting the fabric in the leaves was a wonderful idea! How very clever to position the divide away from the stem. It's a great tip that I will certainly benefit from - so thank you for sharing it!

Enjoy the quilt show!

I love how you mixed the two together.
I am making a silly piece and needed brights and fun, and of course couldn't find what I wanted, so used what I had.

Wow, wonderful leaves. This is a perfect solution - the two fabrics add interest without being too busy. Just love the fabrics you used together. Totally agree with adding the seam a little off center - bravo, Kathie!

I think your leaves are the bees knees, I love that they don't go down the middle, it looks like light and shadow with the two greens.
