TA DA!!! 9 days later all the blocks are made and it will be a quilt top this week. Next time you will see this quilt ( I figure you must be tired of seeing it already!) it will be bound and ready for use! For some reason I felt like I was on a mission to make this quilt, I couldn't wait to come in here and sew every minute I had! I started this quilt with the pattern from Betsy Chutchian's pattern in her book Gone to Texas. Now back to my multiple projects and my passion for little quilts! So I wanted to share with you what's on my cutting board this morning a little quilt from the new book by Kathleen Tracy The Civil War Sewing Circle. If you like little quilts you will love this book like I do.
When I bought this book earlier in the week this was the first quilt I said oh I have to make that! I cut for it while I was cutting for my blocks.

I can't decide if I like it without the little cornerstones or with. Maybe I need to make them both!
Lucky for me I have a box full of little squares so I can play a little bit more and find just the right ones for this little quilt if I decide I want them in there. Which do you like better?

I cut squares from every fabric I take out for my postage stamp quilt, now that I have a lot in my storage box I will make a few more. Hopefully later in the week and I will share them with you.

Here's Kathy's quilt in the book...as you know I hardly ever make a quilt from a pattern just the way it is, I tend to use it for inspiration and make it fit my needs or likes :) Yes I changed the size of the blocks too! I wanted smaller for my wall! Yet it still LOOKS like her quilt that I just really liked!

Your nine patch quilt is just lovely - and you've whipped it up in no time. I have that book and want to make several quilts out of it - I prefer your mini with cornerstones xx

I just got K.T.'s great new book too. Since I live overseas I bought it as an e-book so I didn't have to wait for it to be delivered. Now I just have to decide which quilt to make first!
I am definitely for the cornerstones. It looks like it matches the period of your fabrics more closely. Without them, it has a more "modern" look. Can't wait to see which look you go with!

Your 9-patch/crossroads sure packs a punch! Love all those colors and fabrics.
So many possibilities in a box full of fabric squares!

Wow! Kathie,
That went fast. Looks great! I am so tempted to start a new quilt but I am going to stick to the plan. You get amazing amount of work done in short period of time.

You were definitely on a mission. What a great quilt!
I like the small quilt with the cornerposts. Small quilts are such instant gratification, especially after piecing something so large!

Sometimes I've done a quilt where I can't wait to sew every day on it, this must be one like that and it's a wow scrap quilt. I love it!
I love the little quilt with the cornerstones the best and it's such a simple but effective pattern.

You did seem to get this one finished up quickly. Ahhh a postage stamp quilt, I have always wanted to do one of those too!

Love your completed top! You got that one done in a hurry, wow! I really like the little quilt with the cornerstones. I think I'll make that one too, and yes I really enjoy Kathleen Tracy's books and her blog! So nice that you inspire us while you are being inspired by antique quilts. Thanks Kathy!

I love the quilt! I think I'll make one some day - after I finish the Gone to TX quilt (and some others). I should get KT's new book since I have her other two. It looks intriguing. I like the little quilt with the cornerstones best.

If I had to choose, I would go with the cornerstones. Just because they add a touch more interest.
As for your big quilt, I am in awe of your ability to stay focussed on one project and just go for it. Such a simple design, but it packs a punch. Well done.

I am making the same quilt from the same book! Definately cornerstones!!

I vote for cornerstones, it gives the little quilt more interest. Your colours choices always look so good.

Oh Kathie, the quilt is wonderful!! Kudos for getting it done so quickly!!

I actually like the little quilt without the corner stones but would use a more antiquey looking background fabric that is not so bright.....a modern design with the antique feel you love :0)

I would never tire of seeing this quilt. I can't wait to see it quilted and bound.

I like the one without the cornerstones--it is like a fabric gallery--atttention goes to each of the fabrics.

Your big quilt is gorgeous. I love the combination of the two blocks and all the colors--my cup of tea.

I'm sure you don't sleep! LOL I love how the 9 patch and crossroads turned out. Can't wait to see it quilted.

I like the little quilt with corner stones..more fabrics! :)

Well, I like the cornertone, even before I saw that was the pattern. I have this book and anxious to start making some quilts from it. Now will you tie this or quilt it?

Wow! That 9 patch is absolutely stunning! I say YES to the corner squares but love it both ways!

The cornerstones look the best, in mho. I love this simple design, too. Wouldn't it make a great bed quilt, too?! Your completed blocks look terrific - another beautiful Kathie quilt almost done!

Your Gone to Texas quilt project is so striking. Great job!

Also, I prefer the corner stones on the small wall quilt but you do what makes you happiest. Either one would look super.

I wish I could piece as fast as you do, I tend to take the long way around quilting, lol. Today I started my braids and didn't even get past the first row;)

Am I too late to vote cornerstones? Such a cute quilt and well done on the larger one! I love the color!!

Heartsdesire said...

I think I prefer the cornerstones. I made this small quilt as soon as I got Kathleen's new book. I was even thinking of making it bigger, more of a lap quilt. I've managed to collect quite a few Civil War fabrics and I think this pattern would really showcase them. Your "Gone to Texas" nine-patch is gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing it quilted.

Kathie, your creations never stop amazing me or knocking my socks off. Seriously, well done. So beautiful. You certainly have been busy.

We love the same books, Kathie! I made the 9-patch cross quilt a while back with the first Cocheco collection from P&B. It was from the project sheet that went with the collection. The maker said it was inspired by a quilt in the NJ state documentation book!

Forgot to say that I enlarged my blocks to 9"!

Woohoo you did it Kathie, and doesn't it look fantastic!! xo
