As soon as Cyndi posted these two books on her blog, Busy Thimble Quilt shop in Maine, that she was selling them I went ahead and ordered them!
I have been waiting for someone here in the USA to carry them! They arrived yesterday and I waited till last night to really look thru the books, oh my is all I can say! Beautiful books and wonderful projects , great photography.
I am very happy with both books and I know I will make a few projects from each.
For the Treasures from Holland book by Petra Prins there are quite a few little quilts I will be making, this quilt here I had to share with you as I love the layout of this quilt and the use of the block to form a great border, I don't think I would even add the outside border like she did. The layout is so graphic!
The Past and Present book by Yoko Saito well this sunflower quilt is just beautiful...I am trying to decide to make it folk art looking with plaids or go with reproduction fabrics :) . This book is worth it just for this quilt pattern in mho!
Can you tell I really love quilt books? Especially quilt books inspired by antique quilts . I don't buy quilt books just for the patterns, I love seeing fabric choices in quilts, how the quilter combined colors in a quilt and makes it work, quilts photographed in homes...how they use their quilts in their homes, the quilting designs.
Spending an afternoon just flipping thru quilt books makes me just as happy as an afternoon sewing at the machine or by hand.
How about you? do you reference your quilt books for quilting ideas? setting ideas for a quilt block your making? color inspiration?
If you want to see the inside of these books you can check out the Quiltmania page.
I see two more books on this page I would love to order ok 3!!!! Two USA designers and another Japanese designer
Yes the books are more expensive then we are used to paying for here BUT there are so many more quilts and patterns in the book then we normally see in our books here.
Well worth it in mho.

Oh Kathie I love them both!! and then to visit the 2 sites. Love the fabrics at the store and also really love Quiltmania`s books then they let you look inside. I just want to quilt quilt quilt
Those books look soooo nice.
Great books - cannot wait to see what you do with those great projects!
These two books are beautiful, indeed!! Is the other Japanese one from Shizuko Kuroha ? Because it is a must-have, especially when loving antique Japanese fabrics. I was very lucky to attend a class with both these Japanese quilters and I have finshed the frog basket which is in the book My Quilting Life. You can see it on my blog, date, June 13th.
I do love those books! I use books, blog pictures, antique quilts as a starting point...but then usually make my own version of whichever quilt I am working on...please enjoy your new books!!
You are my book spot! This is where I learn about the next book I think I need to purchase. I appreciate your love of quilt books since you share good ones and by the way - between the books and fabric - I think we're going to have to start cutting back on something around LeeHaven. I just haven't figured out where to trim back. Addictions!!!
Those books look wonderful. I love my books, I have hundreds because I do the same thing you do and always am ispired in some way!
I do love books also, I'm like you, I buy not only for the patterns, but the inspiration of the entire quilt, the photographs, the process, you know the whole 9 yards so to speak....those books look awesome, my last purchase was a Kaffee Fassett book which I'm head over heels in love with, yet he doesn't work in my style at all, which is Civil War and reproduction fabs, But his designs and color choices are wonderful...

Books look great. I jsut noticed the challenge on Quilts n snips and I'm in. Just what I needed to start back at sewing.
I don't have many books. Following blogs gives me lots of inspiration and it free :0)
Crispy
I love these books! I purchased Jan Patek's Country Quilts for the Soul and Treasures from Holland when they first became available and I'm waiting for my copy of Past and Present plus a few back issues of the magazine. Eye candy and yes, expensive, but there are a lot of patterns and inspiration! Enjoy!
Oh dear. Didn't need to see this post. lol! I've been drooling over those books and others for a while now. Sigh....
I love yoko's books, but they are pricey.
I keep my eye on ebay and get lucky sometimes, but would be nice if we could get them here without the expense of over sea costs;)
Debbie
Kathi, I just ordered Petra Prins book yesterday, and I am very glad that you helped me validate my purchase. I recieved Bonnie Sullivan's Quiltmania book last month and haven't stopped drooling. Beautiful!
I rarely buy books for patterns anymore. For me, they have to be inspirational in some way. I just bought Sue Spargo's Quilt Mania book in Sisters, OR and it is fabulous! The great photos make it so worth the extra money!
These look like great books - have fun.
Both those books looks so nice, but I'm in love with the Treasures from Holland quilt.
I rarely make a quilt right from the book--and even then I change colors or borders. I love to get ideas and inspiration from quilt books--especially those that feature vintage quilts. I'm not necessarily trying to replicate them, so much as give a vintage feel.
Kathie, you find the coolest books that I don't seem to run across.
Your versions of these quilts will be just as spectacular!
Your new books look amazing! My fear when I buy a new quilting book is that I will be adding to my "to-do" list and spending my quilting time day-dreaming about projects to come, instead of finishing projects I have started :)
Oh yay! Two more books to add to the list. I am impatiently waiting for my copy of Betsy's new book to get here today. I see that it was delivered to our mail office but everything is delayed since the President was speaking on campus today. Doesn't that man know where MY priorities are??
Kathie, love the books, especially The Past and Present, how did you go about ordering it from The Busy Thimble Quilt Shop.
Nancy
Hi Kathie,
I bought the Past & Present book when Carol & Guy from Quiltmania were here a fortnight ago. I love the bags too. Carol brought the sunflower quilt with her so I got to see it up close and it was wonderful. I also got to see the 'Stars' quilt. Enjoy!
Awesome books! Thank for sharing. Love the colors in the sunflowers. IMHO Book Rate should mean they arrive faster - not slower!
I really buy only quilt books with OLD quilts... for pure eye candy... ;-)
Great minds... I love those books too.
I would bet that the Indigo book is "on the list"'. It is outstanding, I might even like it better than Yoko's book because of the amount of pure information it contains. And there are dozens and dozens of glorious pictures, of course.
I'm just glad that all this sumptuous eye-candy isn't fattening... at least not calorie-wise. :)
That was a treat--checking out the Quiltmania site and seeing page after page of wonderful projects. Thanks for sending me that direction. You're going to have great fun with your new books.
I'm trying to be good. No more books or fabric for me. None at all. I'm set until the 22nd century
Aren't those books fantastic? I've got Treasures from Holland. Petra's ( the author) shop is only 16 km. from where I live, so I come there often. She always has fantastic quilts in the shop as well. I ove to go there (a bit to much may e LOL).
Just your kind of books Kathie. Lovely quilts in there that you can make mini quilts with - Hugs Nat
i absolutely do enjoy my quilting book collection~!!~ not so much for the patterns (anymore) but for the photography and inspiration.
i drag a few out whenever i'm feeling stuck or just am too tired to do anything else.
:-)

Personally, I love books, especially quilt books. I have way too many, but I look through them often for ideas and inspiration. Your new books are very inspirational.
Ohhh more great books! I love books....almost as much as I love fabric! lol
Thank you for sharing.
Oh stop it. You always make me want those things too!!! Actaully I had wanted these 2 books before you had them and posted this, but still......
Lovely books,i have the one of Petra prins also,i like antique quilts.
I've never spent that much for quilt books before but the two by Yoko Saito and one by Bonnie Sullivan are so worth it! I think you've inspired a few others to add to their library too! Saito is new to me and I'm so glad I found these books. Thank you Quiltmania!!!
Oh my goodness!! That log cabin looks so much like mine - it's like I copied it. So glad to see another one done like that - your new books look fabulous!
