When I saw scrap bags of Kaffe and Kaffe style fabrics for sale on Glorious Color I just had to buy them! I don't have a fabric collection of these type fabrics , wish I did sometimes! so its nice when I can purchase scrap bags like this. I was hoping for lots of bright fabrics and this time around there are mostly darker fabrics. Hopefully they will have more in the very near future.
I thought I could use them to whip up another donation quilt.
Oh so why was I on the Glorious Color website???? When I saw Taryn's post about her ordering the Stars and Sprigs quilt pattern I knew I had to finally order it as well.
I have loved this quilt from the first time I saw it. And the fact that it was inspired by an antique quilt I knew someday I would have to make it! I vowed not to buy it till I had one of her quilts finished I had the patterns for already. Oh well a year is long enough right? After seeing Janet's blocks and then her finished quilt top I knew I was getting closer to buying that pattern ! Now having a friend to challenge and a little friendly competition to making blocks each week I will be starting this quilt soon. The pattern arrived yesterday!

A new book I bought recently. oh my what wonderful quilt pictures in here, full page color pictures, just beautiful.
One that I am happy is now in my library. If you love antique quilts this is a book that you should consider buying.
The book is available thru the DAR museum shop

I have only 4 more rows to go for the donation quilt I am making, I am very happy with the way its coming out and not having any problems sewing at the machine. My foot is healing and I have been given the go ahead to sit and sew "legally" LOL
I learned how to use the other foot on the pedal! thanks for all your get well wishes...
stay tuned I feel a few sewing marathon sessions on my machine coming on!

I've seen Janet's stunning quilt. This pattern is a beauty. I have several historical quilt books checked out from my local library...Minnesota, West Virginia, Wisconsin...so much inspiration.

Glad to hear your foot is healing well.
Great to see you are going to make Stars ans Sprigs. Will you be using all repro fabrics for this one too?
That book has been on my radar for a while. The reviews sound great.
Have fun on your marathon sewing sessions! :)

I'm quite excited that you're going to do the S&S with Taryn, that should help the motivation. I had such a hard time deciding wether to go repros or brights with that one, I love both.
Great going on the charity quilt too. Oh I'd die to own the book, wonder if I can ring them?

I've been fighting the impulse to begin Stars and Sprigs AND Roseville AND the one you are working on, as well!! LOL Can't really justify it, but that hasn't necessarily been a deterrent in the past. :-D We'll have to see if we can't get you some brighter scraps!!
Blessings,
Mary Lou

Gorgeous post Kathie, so glad your foot is healing up!!! Working with your other foot on the pedal must have been interesting, don't think I'm quite that coordinated! xo

How exciting that you are doing Stars and Sprigs. I have the pattern but have not started it yet. That book looks really good too, I have a weakness for books. I love the charity quilt, my kind of colors!!! Looks to be a good weekend to sew.

Maybe you and Taryn will inspire me to get my butt in gear and start this quilt as well. I started a couple of blocks in brights and they lanquished. I have been on the fence about which way to jump...brights or repros...

I'm glad your foot is mending! Now you can guiltlessly hit the gas!

In stitches,
Teresa :o)

I love anything Kaffe. The pattern you have selected is quite ambitious! Good luck!

The bag of scraps looks pretty good to me. You would need darks anyway. I got my pattern two days ago and brought it to work with me so I can cut it up on our conference table. I want to get ready for some hand sewing this weekend if the power goes out. Hopefully, I won't be spending my time bailing water.

I love getting scrap bags. You can always do something with the contents, even if it is a simply beautiful donation quilt, like the one you are making.
My, oh my, that Stars and Sprigs quilt looks ambitious! Such a stunner!

You'll love working on that and doing it with a friend is the best.
Glad you hear you are able to work at the machine.
I had trouble with the link to the DAR but I am sooo interested in the book - if you say it's good, it must be.

Stars and Sprigs is wonderful, can't wait to share in your progress. Good idea on the bright scrap bags - I have no brights in my stash, but have customers who would like bright jewelry - I will have to check into that!

What is it about someone else's scrap bag that is so appealing!?!? I would be totally beside myself to sew a quilt with those scraps...can't wait to see what you make!

Wow! You are a brave one! That is quite the undertaking! Gorgeous quilt though!

Spoke to Barbara, the one with the doll antique quilt and others. She will actually be taking part in a historical club I will be hosting and said she will be bringing her quilts. Promise to take pictures ;o) Thanks for sharing! Cheers

Kathie, is this a book I need to buy? It is very pricy, but that's OK if it is a fabulous book. Do you have the embroidery CD's? Do I need them. I've not found a place to get the book without the CD's.
