Here is another little quilt I had long arm quilted. I love red and brown quilts!
16.5" x 16.5"

Just how sweet is this little quilt ? A very simple quilt but look how much it comes alive with all that quilting. I love how the clamshell quilting adds so much texture to the quilt 12.5" x 12.5"

At first I felt really guilty having these little quilts machine quilted, seeing the way these turned out I am happy I did it.I still have many that need to be hand quilted and two more to bind from the machine quilter :) maybe I need to give her a few more!
I am learning to make choices hand quilting time vs hand applique time, I am choosing to hand quilt my favorite quilts. If you found a way to do it all please tell me your secret! I LOVE hand quilting, the look, the process, the feel but I can't hand quilt every quilt I make, or can I?
Yesterdays quilt is 1" squares , 13" x 15" so you can really appreciate those tiny baptist fans.

You can sew a bunch of small quilts together and put the same backing on them and they get done in a hurry. Love the Little Quilts! I bought the Civil War Sewing Circle book so I can make a few of these. You inspire all of us!

Oh this is so pretty!! I love the clam shell quilting. I agree that it would be nice to hand quilt everything but it just takes so much time. I see getting quilting done for you as a gift to yourself. I didn't realise how tiny yesterday's quilt was! Oh how cute!!

The machine quilting turned out great! I love the effect the clamshells have and have never seen them done that well by machine before. The red and brown quilt was a favorite even as a top.

I have several customers who always give me little quilts to quilt and they are always happy. I guess it just depends on the mood they are in. I say, that you need to do what will make you happy. They look great!

Cute, cute, cute! I love anything red. I, too, have to make decisions on how I use my time. Thankfully, I'm not the type that worries because I'm not producing finishes like crazy because I so enjoy the process.

I love, looove the red and brown quilt! Your choice for the alternate blocks fabric is perfect!

You have gone directly to the heart of the matter - hand quilting is time consuming. Your little quilts are lovely with the machine quilting and stand on their own. We all have to make decisions on what gets done and how - always an on-going process.

These look terrific Kathie!
I love the combination of red and brown too. The print really adds interest.
The little pink one is sooo sweet!

I have not figured out a way to hand quilt every quilt or do it all. If I gave up everything else, then maybe, but then that would be no way to live. I take joy in what I can do, let some things be machine quilted and just keep adding things to the "want to make someday" list.
Your little quilts turned out great.

Kathie - these are just beautiful! I'll definitely have to do a red and brown quilt soon - yours really turned out so nice.

Please don't stop hand quilting your small quilts, though. If you don't have the time, just save it for the ones you really love. I have started to machine quilt some of the little ones because then I can get them done finally. But when I hand quilt some of them I end up loving them even more than when I started. It really adds something special. You've inspired me to write about it on my blog today! -Kathy

Adorable! I love the red print you used!
You are so good at everything else, I am surprised you don't machine quilt the little ones yourself.

Sure you could hand quilt everything you make--if you weren't so darn productive! : )
My Mom hand quilts all her quilts, but she only makes one bed-size quilt a year! What discipline! I did not inherit that.
I didn't know I loved red and brown quilts, until I saw yours! And, as I told you on your last post, clam shell is another one of my favorite all over quilt designs. Such beautiful little quilts!

Yep, save your hand quilting for your favorites, and send off the others! We aren't going to live long enough to hand quilt it all, and we want to enjoy the ones we've made! Don't feel guilty at all....they came out great! I love the little clamshells! Sweet! And I didn't realize just how small those fans were on the yesterday's quilt! Wow!

So cute! The red and brown one is stunning! I have several small quilts and have been tempted to send them out to be quilted....I love to piece them, it's finishing them that trips me up. Have a great day!

Love the little quilts, I need to make some, just too lazy to do machine quilting lately. Today I am going to start a christmas hanging, something simple and some machine sewing, but i like the applique, so I can sit on my rear and watch tv, while I sew;)

It is all about choices, isn't it? Personally, I would like to sew more doll quilts and do both machine or hand quilt rather than just sew one, quilt one. Your professional quilter did a wonderful job of capturing what was perfect for your little quilts.

Wow, those tiny clamshells! Sweet little pink quilt, and the red and brown is a great one, too. A jacob's ladder in those colors has been on my to-make list for some time. It just might move up the order. Such a good autumn color combo.

I love the red setting fabric in the first quilt. I love the quilting on the quilts and wish there were more hours in a day, too.

So beautiful! I love red and brown together too. I really should take a class in hand quilting because I've never learned the proper way to use a thimble, etc., and always find myself bent double over my lap trying to stitch without a hoop! To me, finished quilt is the goal, so machine or hand done, it is not hidden in a pile for "someday".

I admire people who make quilts, especially hand quilted quilts! Such a labor of love! I met a new friend recently who showed me her collection of hand stitched quilts. It was awesome. I wonder if you would be interested in my embroidery work at http://faypaints.blogspot.com. I am actually having a giveaway right now. You should check it out. Happy stitching!

Oh my goodness you have a ton of followers and now I am one too. I came by your blog via Log Cabin quilter and just love the quilts you have shown in the last few posts. I had not thought of putting red and brown together in a quilt, but it really is a nice combination.

I've loved red and brown together in quilts since the first one I saw that reminded me of chocolate covered cherries. That's probably in the back of my mind every time I see one. Actually, chocolate seldom leaves my mind, but that's another story.
Sweet quilts, lovely quilting, well done.

What wonderful small quilts! I like the clamshell quilting. I think it's a great plan to hand quilt your favorites and to machine quilt the rest. It allows to you make more quilts ;-)

Have a great weekend,
Judy

I love that brown and red quilt!! I bet it feels great to be getting a few of these finished so you can enjoy them as quilts.

The machine quilting looks great. I love the red fabric in the red and brown quilt, it' really suits it.

Don't feel guilty about having small quilts long-arm quilted, you can only do so much yourself, so enjoy the option!! So far your little quilts look just wonderful!! I recently had a small quilt long-armed and I don't know why I hadn't done it sooner!!!!

Diane said...

Sorry to say, NO ONE can do it all!. You absolutely astonish me with what you accomplish, Kathie. I think you've made wise choices in having some of your work machine quilted. I admire any workmanship that is well done and you've managed to find a gem of a quilter.
