I bought this DVD set last month and finally this week was able to watch it from start to finish. I need to watch it again! I learned a lot, saw A LOT of great antique quilts and enjoyed hearing many peoples opinions on antique quilts. From dealers to historians it was interesting. 250 minutes of talking about quilts, what could be better? This series will be on PBS so check your local stations. Or you can buy it here, Why Quilts Matter.

I ordered this book from blurb a few months ago. I was hoping to start making a New York Beauty quilt , at least a block before I posted about this book. its on the list for 2012. I have been following Bill Volckenings Blog for a long time and when he said he was writing a book and sharing pictures of his collection of NYB quilts I was thrilled.
Its a book worth having in your collection in mho. You can preview the book, Beauty Secrets, here and purchase it as well...check it out.
Nifty quilt blog did a great review of the quilt exhibit of Bill's NYB quilts on her blog...just look at those quilts!

Thanks to all of you who entered my little giveaway and for all the nice comments about my quilt. I truly appreciate it.
the winner of the Sew Scrappy Magazine (book in mho!) is Kaaren from The Painted Quilt blog. just send me an email with your mailing address and I will drop it in the mail to you next week

New York Beauty quilts leave me in awe!
Not only are you quite the cover girl, Kathiw, I just realized another quilt I had been eyeing from inside a mag was also your design. You rock!!

I ordered the DVD as well, and have been watching it in bits and pieces as I sew. It is wonderful, and really makes me feel tied to the past!

That DVD sounds very interesting! I look forward to seeing your NYB block/quilt. It's a pattern I'd like to make too.

Congratulations to Kaaren!

I have to go through my books and see what patterns I want to make this year, I need one new one for my new bedroom, so hoping to find a pattern that is nice, but simple.

Congrats to Kaaren! I love the sound of the DVD and the book has been on my list to get too. I adore NYB quilts and a traditional one is definitely on my list, maybe we could compare notes later on.

nice blog, I found you at Log Cabin Quilter, Karen mentioned your postage stamp quilt...
My late Mother started one a number of years ago. Maybe this will inspire me to work on it.
Really like your blog and all your colors.

Congrats to Kaaren! That DVD is on my Christmas wish list. With all the football, etc. around our house, it is often hard to catch PBS where the series runs. I have a little giveaway going on - hop over if you have a moment!

Thanks for letting us know about the PBS quilt series. It hasn't come to our station yet. I may have to buy the DVD. I'm glad you got Bill Volckening's book. I could look at those quilts forever!

I bought the magazine today, mainly for your quilt design from the cover. I have been dropping by your blog to site see, and am amazed by the amount of quilts you have made already this year!! I wanted to have the magazine pictures to study why your quilts sparkle the way they do. Off to cuddle up and read!!
