this is the little quilt I chose to make first out of Sarah Fielke's new book Quilting from Little Things. this book is just starting to be available here in the USA. As you can see in the picture of the book I have quite a few post its and plans to make a few more from this book. I bet you may be a little surprised as all of Sarahs quilts are made from what I call bright fabrics....not reproduction fabrics. I don't buy books cause they look like my quilts, I buy books when the quilts inspire me, I can look past the fabrics they use and know I can make it my own in my own palette of fabrics. Don't you do the same thing? If not give it a try next time your looking at quilt books, you will be amazed at what books you will buy!
Sarah's quilts are bold and graphic I love that but I can do the same thing with my historical reproduction fabrics, yes I can!
Here is the quilt in the book...ok so I changed it a bit I used one fabric for the background , a great cheddar I have been saving for the right occasion! So what do you think now? Is my little quilt as graphic as hers and mine is in reproductions.
the color is off in the background here (truer colors in the first picture) but wanted you to see the comparison shots...
Did you see Lurlines eagle?
I have to share with you my first attempt into working with wool again in quite a few years, I have JUMPED on the wool bandwagon just wait a few weeks and see what I have done! Isn't this gingerbread man cute and well the fabrics behind him are even BETTER! Ah yes the Friendship line from Howard Marcus for Moda's Collection for a Cause program. remember I posted about it here...
I am so thrilled over these turkey red fabrics, Thanks Moda!
Happy Thanksgiving after all the family festivities I will be doing a little hand quilting this weekend,

I really like your version of Sarah's quilt! I really like the dark fabric.
Wonderful quilt, never thought to make mini versions of antique applique pieces, will have to look through my books. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Love your quilt! And your little pin cushion is adorable too. Those reds are nice, I'm going to have to be on the lookout for them.
That is a gorgeous quilt! And yes, I can look past the fabrics and work with what I love most :)
I am anxious to have the Friendship fabric line. I've checked it out on the Moda site and it's just gorgeous. I don't think there is a piece I don't like! Thank you for letting all of us know about it.
Thank you also for the inspiration you give to us with your creativity you share on your blog. You truly are inspirational.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. May your day be blessed.
Hugs,
Sue
I never met an eagle I didn't like. It is very nice Kathie!!
Happy Happy Thanksgiving!!
Beautiful eagle! Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you! Love that you saved the gorgeous orange for this, and the second fabric is just as great. (Must finish my four block eagle; thanks for the reminder.) Yes, there are so many great ideas out there, in a variety of books, and so often not in repros. We do need to look past that.
It's funny, but I would have never looked twice at her version in the book....way too much 'in your face' fabric for my taste.....but yours is lovely.....it is just right in the repros! Well done!
Can't wait to see what you do with those fabulous reds!
Have a happy Thanksgiving....eat lots of pie!
What a fun quilt you made from a fun book! I agree with you about how to pick the books to buy. I dot own interpretation from one to the other to turn into my style or what I like at the time. Happy Turkey Day!
Kathie, I think your version of Sarah's quilt is absolutely stunning. I love your fabric choices and think the give the quilt a more elegant feel. I'm also really loving the Friendship fabric line, it looks like "I have to have" fabric to me. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work with us. Hugs...
That bird is going no-where hihi!! Great choice of fabric!! Happy sewing, hugs, Daniëlle
you have spoke words that ring true with me, in fact i love books that are printed in black & white, totally allows the quilter creative freedom....
am not & never have been a fan of kits, we all need room to spend our wings & fly with our own inner desires.....you're never wrong just different and that's a good thing....

Kathie, yours is wonderful, love the cheddar!! Are you hand quilting it?
I definitely prefer this little eagle quilt in your repro fabrics. Great choices. Just beautiful!
I agree, sometimes I think we miss out on some great patterns/designs when we only look at the fabrics used in various books! Your version is very striking indeed, I look forward to seeing how you will quilt it! Your little gingerbread man is very cute too!
Love your eagle, the orange is delicious. So jealous that you have those reds already!!,!!!
Love your version of the little eagle quilt !
Your version of Sarah's quilt is fabulous. I have the book and the two Material Obsession books, too....I love them all. I agree with you on looking past the fabrics to the design.
I agree that your version of Sarah's quilt is wonderful. I like your color choices.
I love the fabrics you used in the Eagle quilt - what a winner! I love it!!
Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving
Sarahs quilt is based on eagle quilts from the mid 1800's. She's great at interpreting old into new and you've interpreted it again. That's one of the wonderful things about quilting, it's all about our self expression. I love the colours you've used! I so look forward to your other quilts inspired by Sarahs book.
Kathie,
having trouble with my email, can receive but not send. Sent you about 4 emails over the weekend, and now this is possibly the only way l can contact you. Can you email me if this gets through, thanks. Just want to know if this worked. Can't even email my sever to let them know there is a problem.
Wow, Kathie! I never would have thought of that when I saw that quilt in the book. Your wall looks so wonderful!
Kathie, I know I'm a little late commenting, but I love the eagle and fabric choices!! Wonderful!!! The Christmas fabrics are delicious!!! I posted the last of my Christmas small quilts and several were inspired by your small quilts!! Thought you might like to take a gander and see!!!
Blessings
I like your version very much. The colors look great together.
