Isn't this beautiful? I love tulips and well red and green antique quilts you can't get any better!
My Friend Lorre gave me this for Christmas, she knows me well! The hand quilting is amazing , she bound it and put a sleeve on the back so I can hang it immediately! What a treasure for me.

Do you think she knew this was on the top of my list to make for 2012? Now I have my own pattern to use to make a quilt inspired by this antique quilt on the cover I have been admiring for the past few years.

If you don't own this book its one worth owning in mho!
One of my favorite versions of this quilt is here.....
I am curious do you have a quilt on the top of your list to start/make in 2012 I would love to know!
ARe you inspired to make lots of little quilts in 2012 like I am as well???? I will be making at least one of those each month.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! I am wishing each and everyone of you a healthy, happy year filled with many hours in the sewing room.
Thank you for taking the time to comment on my little blog.
I truly appreciate each and everyone of them.

Gorgeous! Love red and green (and any of the lovely antique-y variations).
Love the string tulips...I have a '30's quilt top of crossed string tulips waiting to be quilted...maybe in 2012??

Oh, Kathie, it's beautiful. A wonderful gift to treasure.

I don't have any specific projects to make in 2012 but you have inspired me to think about making small quilts.

I really liked the scrappy version of Tuips done by Nifty Quilts. Thanks for the link.

I don't have any plans for little quilts. But on the top of my list this year is to do a Blind Man's Fancy quilt, a pineapple quilt, and to finish some UFO's.

I look forward to seeing what you make in the coming year. It always provides me with lots of inspiration for my own projects.

Merry Christmas! What better way is there to celebrate than with a red and green quilty gift? No special quilt project plans here. I am thinking of many small quilts and even some small enough to hang on next year's tree.

My first goal is to finish the Thread Head quilt along quilt. I have all the blocks finished and most of the border. I also have several UFO's that I want to finish. I want to make Oak Leaves & Turkey Feathers by Jan Patek (from her Country Paths book). Also, get the Civil War blocks put together & finished. I think I have enough to do (plus will go off on tangents from time to time)! I love your blog - so inspiring!

I have lots of quilts on the list for making. I need one for my kitchen wall where there is a huge bare space. My daughter informed me that she's never seen an empty spot on any of my walls before! LOL

I do want to make several more little quilts. I like those as they come together quickly. Love Kathleen Tracy's little ones from her books.

Thatnks for the information on that book. I must check this one out!

Wishing you a wonderful New Year too. Your are such an inspiration to all of us quilters out there !!

Blessings,
Sue

That is a very special little quilt you received. Wow-very densely quilted!
I have a list of people for whom I need to make quilts, but don't necessarily have specific quilts in mind for them yet. And I need to get my Tree of Life top basted and ready to hand quilt.
Definitely minis in my year--definitely!!

That IS my plan for 2012....to make a bunch of little quilts! I've made several mug rugs for b-day gifts in the past few months, and as quick as they are to turn out.....I was thinking I should be making small quilts for wall hangings! They get done so must faster than the bed quilts! (Who am I kidding....they would actually get DONE! lol)

Love the tulips wall hanging you received.....it's a beauty!

That's a really lovely quilt. Lorre must be a very good friend! Can you tell us more about the book - like who wrote it and what type of quilts are in it? Thanks!

Lorre's little tulip quilt is a treasure and her hand quilting is divine. Wonderful friend.
You have inspired me from a few of the books you posted this year to start a few new quilts in the new year. I've also made a list of UFOs for a 2012 challenge with my guild. First on the list are a red and white quilt that is started and two BOWs, my Civil War Quilt and an 1880s Sampler. My goal is 12 in '12 !!!
Wishing you a healthy, happy new year with lots of time in your sewing room inspired by antique quilts :0) Jo

Happy New Year to you. I look forward to seeing all you accomplish in 2012. Although I have 2 modern-style and color quilts I'll make for a daughter and granddaughter in 2012, I'll make something old-fashioned for me. I just finished up a Jacob's Ladder in reproduction fabrics, inspired by YOU. I have loads of 3 inch 9 patches that I exchange on a monthly basis, and I think I may finally make something with them this year. I also love hexagons, and am working on ones with a black center, white/gray ring followed by a solid color ring. But with your inspiration, I also plan some small guys too. Best wishes, Kathie L in Allentown

What a striking quilt!!! You guessed my plan, little quilts! I have a collection pinned to the wall beside my bed but have decided the whole room would look great coved in little quilts. I've got some big quilts in my head too but most importantly i have some WIPs that need finishing and quilt tops that need quilting, it would be great to get them all done.. Thanks for the book suggestion. Wishing you a wonderful New Year!

The quilt at the top of my list is to get a top that I made a few years ago, quilted. It is made out of reproduction fabrics, measures 99" square, and I want to quilt it using the Baptist Fan pattern. I also want to make a red & white quilt, a cheddar and blue quilt, and finish an applique project that I am 3/4s of the way finished. I enjoy seeing all your small quilts.

What a beautiful gift!! And OMG, the quilting is splendid.
As for the quilts I would love to make in 2012... there are thousands... but I must confess that I am in awe when I see Yoko Saito's or her students quilts... it makes me want to quilt night and day to achieve at least one equivalent beauty in my lifetime...

Yes, it is a great book. The cover quilt is indeed a worthy one to reinterpret.
What a beauty to add to your small quilt collection! It is growing by leaps and bounds!

The quilt Lorre gifted to you is wonderful, a real treasure. Love your plan for the tulip quilt, I'm sure it will be inspiring. I can't see past a few quilts I'd love to keep going on and the red and white sampler that Gaye and Brenda are putting up will be my new one.

What a beautiful quilt! and so much hand quilting! very special!
I love the Georgia book and have thought of making the cover quilt. One of the many quilts on my long list. Yes, it includes a few minis.
Happy new year to you, too!

What a lovely gift!! The quilting looks wonderful. I can't wait to see your tulip quilt develop.
I have a few current quilts that I'm still excited about so I'm going to stay focused for 2012. (except for Lori's doll quilt quilt-a-long that I'm looking forward to :0)

As soon as I saw the book, I thought of LeeAnn's quilt. It's one of my favorite quilts that I've seen. Have fun with this. I'm going to do the Red and White quilt along....and finish up a few tops that have been nagging at me! and definitely some more small pieces, they were fun in 2011.

I love your blog, but it has cost me some money. I'm always buying a new book or fabric that I saw on your blog. This year I am going to try and make a small quilt each month. By next December I'll have a galley wall like yours (well sort-of) I'm not the best piecer but practice makes perfect right??

I'm hoping to make 2012 a year when I just overwhelm myself with small quilts that I finish. And with that lofty goal in mind, I've gathered all my Lori Smith patterns, all my books with little quilts (I'm up to 9 or 10, I'm sure), plus a healthy stack of articles ripped from magazines featuring little quilts. I have the supplies, I have the enthusiasm, and I just need someone to follow. Lead on, Ms. Kathie!!

I suspected you'd be showing the wonderful tulips quilt made by Nifty Quilts. Hers is very special.

Kathie, as always, you are inspirational to so many of us. I am planning a quilt table topper as a 80th wedding anniversary gift, fashioned after a nine patch you had in your design wall in October. Could you let me know if I can give you credit? I couldn't find your email to ask privately. Thank you, pokey

I love the gift! The quilting looks amazing in the photo, I can only imagine how it looks in person.
I have way too many small projects that I want to do, but I am thinking about a thimble quilt.

Thanks for your blog.
