this is the layout I finally decided on , a double nine patch block with an alternate block of the red toile. I have a pieced border planned that I think will really add to this quilt design. I am thinking about hand quilting this with red thread, oh do you think I can really do that????
Here is what is waiting for me this morning on my cutting table ready to pin and just start sewing...
Give it a try next time before you leave your sewing room/space layout a few blocks or units to just start sewing.

I think you can do it, Kathie! :-)
I'm curious: what did you make your design wall out of? That's my winter project...
I'm glad you are using larger blocks of that toile. It is such a pretty print. Yes, a design wall is in my plans too, Yours seems to work well.
I'm enjoying this quilt coming together. Can't wait to see what you have planned for the border. And red quilting thread sounds perfect.
Another stunning red and white quilt. I love the new toile but did not know how to use it. Thanks, as always, for the inspiration.
I think it will look great with red thread! And I definitely leave projects out so that I can get right to it in the morning!
I really love the way the red in the 9 patch blocks appear to float over the print! I'm in love with red right now too, check out Moda's new French General line Rouenneries Deux. It's so beautiful.
Oh, I love the bigger chunks of the toile - excellent idea. I love the idea of handquilting with red thread. :-)
I love that quilt!!!!!
It will be so pretty, but hand quilting... don't think so :D
Here still no snow and it is almost Xmas. Tonight all my quilting friends are coming to my place for mulled wine and seasonal delicacy, only you and Lorre are missing. Well maybe next year .
oh that is going to be so lovely. I don't think I'd have the patience for hand-quilting, I'd want it done and displayed-but red thread-yes!
This will be beautiful! I like the setting you decided on; the alternate blocks are large enough to really show off that wonderful toile.
I try to do the same as you when leaving my sewing room; it's so much easier to get started or to just get one seam done if there's only a few minutes to work when one has something ready to start sewing immediately.
Yep, you nailed it!
Well, you did it again! Inspired me to get some more fabric :D :D
I have been enjoying the process of this quilt so much as well as the fabric that when I was in Charlotte yesterday, I purchased some of that absolutely gorgeous toile!! I put off buying some of Jo's fabrics this year because she had so many lines coming out at once, but this is just too beautiful to pass up.
I sure do love your nine patch!
I love your double 9 patch. I bought a bolt of that toile and thought I might make a double Irish chain from it but now I'm rethinking that plan. If I can just finish Christmas preparations I can get back to sewing.
Oh I love the double nine patch layout with that gorgeous toile!! It was very smart of you to get so much of it :0) Red thread for handquilting will be wonderful.
wow...that is really going to be stunning!
Love, love, love it! Hey, I do the same thing. I cut a project or prep before I leave for work and then I can just sit and sew it when I get home. That truly is what made me be able to accomplish my 2011 goal which was to sew everyday.
Beautiful!
This is going to be such a beautiful quilt. Love the toile with the double 9 patch. I often set tomorrows project out before I leave the studio. It really helps me to get going on the days I only have a little time in the studio.
Great layout, really shows off the beautiful toile.
I love your layout. I might have to buy some more of that toile, if I can find it. I have 4 yards, but I'm liking your quilt, so I might just have to make one too. Thanks for the inspiration. Michele
I knew the toile would be smashing in this design!
Yes to the red thread!! It's absolutely wonderful!! I always like to leave a threaded needle fir my handing sewing but never thought to leave blocks ready to sew. Such a clever tip, thank you!
I LOVE it, and I say a big fat yes to red quilting thread.
Gorgeous and YES to red thread!!! My word verif is "hotism". Wonder if that's how to describe the color red.
what size blocks are these in the small quilt? Thank you.
Love this, Jessica in Colorado
Nice layout--simple, but with plenty of visual interest.
I know YOU can do it, Kathie. Now if it was me--that's another story!
I love the layout! Beautiful.
Love it!!!
Really pretty! Is it an optical illusion, or are all the solids not the same size? IS the middle one slightly smaller? Just trying to see because I'd like to make this. Really pretty! I'm a toile NUT and have a ton of it!
This is going to look great Kathie, I look forward to seeing your border! I think it will be stunning!!!
It looks fabulous Kathie, that toile makes a lovely muted background. Seems like many of us can't get away from the red and white. Look forward to seeing the borders.
So pretty! It almost looks like snow flakes! I love it ! & why not use red thread?
Trying to send you an email, but it keeps coming back failed!! Are you having problems with email at the moment?
Looks great! I love the larger blocks of toile.
Red thread will be perfect!
*yum*
Kathie, this quilt is fabulous! What size are you little 9 patch blocks?
