My goal this year is to have fun with my quilting and to make a few of the quilts that have been on my list forever! One of the quilts I have always wanted to make is a nine patch, 3" queen size, do I decided this is the year to do it. I am working out of my scrap basket first and these are the ones I made so far!
I can never cut for just one quilt at a time or work on quilt at a time so here is my latest little quilt project. Notice all the same fabrics as the nine patches, great time saver make two quilts at once! Its just like one I made last year thats on my wall of little quilts but now the strips are vertical, what a different look!
I am trying to decide on border fabrics....how about a poll?
here are a few I tried....sorry I didn't take the time to crop the pictures but you get the idea I like working on multiple projects at once, I never get bored this way :)
lets call this one A

lets call this one B

lets call this one C

lets call this one D

I would love to know which one do you like best???
and yes please tell me you work on multiple projects at once too!
And did you see Taryn's? I had to laugh when I saw her making one of these scrappy quilts too! A great way to use up those little pieces and/or highlight some of your favorite fabrics.
Just wanted you all to know Betsy has started her own blog! Betsy's Best quilts and more.... You know Betsy one of the founders of the Famous Houston Diva's as I call them, she wrote the book Gone to Texas and then along with Carol another one of the amazing Houston Diva's wrote History Repeated block exchange quilts by the 19th Century Patchwork Diva's , MY FAVORITE BOOK FROM 2011. go say Hi to Betsy and welcome her to blogland!

I like "A". It has just enough red and I like the look of the brown rather than the green with the red.

Hmmm, I don't even want to count how many projects I have going at the moment!! Lol I can't work on just one quilt at a time! Variety is the spice of life!

I love C, need to find my mojo for 2012..... I think it is still on holidays

I am fond of nine patches. Of course I work on more than one project at a time. Handwork (usually applique), quilting and machine piecing.

I like C best I think.

And I love 9 patches too!

I like A and C. I think the red is terrific and I love the different side borders. Multiple projects you say? I dare not count!!!

Fun scrppy little quilt - love the tiny nine patches, as well.

I think I like D but then again A, B & C are also great. LOL

Happy New Year Kathie!
I love that you are planning to make more mini quilts. Love the one in the previous post too! It has been one of my favorite patterns and still have not made it! Thanks for sharing the 'homemade template' idea.
Hoping to see you sometime soon!

I like B best. Am I the only one so far? I definitely work on more than one project at a time. Not counting the UFOs there are about five. I love 9-patches too.

Lucy said...

They are al looking good but I go for B. The brown and blue. The colors in the strips are coming out so good with these borders. Great mini Kathie and you have a great goal with your nine patches!

TööT said...

They all look very goog but as you can have only one border, i would go with B

SueB said...

I like A. But on this one you are gong to have votes on every one of them because they are all good.. But I still pick A..

Taryn said...

I like A best. I think I saw it in the rule book that we must work on more than on project at a time. It saves time, minimizes boredom and keeps the creative juices flowing.

I like A. I have 8 projects going on right now. My design wall is a jumble of parts for 5 little quilts. AND I have 3 leader/enders going at once. I love starting projects. It's the completing part that is my downfall.

Cheryl said...

Your nine patch quilt will be a great project for the year! The 3" units you have already look great together.
I am having a hard time picking a favorite...but, C is my vote. I like the scrappy nature of the border.

Pinkadot Quilts said...

I think I like B the best.
I only have 1 project at a time and do it from start to finish and use up all the fabrics so there is none left over! do you believe me????

Sue said...

Love this! I really like A and B!! LOL That is probably no help at all, but those are the ones I like. :D :D

Thank you for the link for Betsy's new blog. I surely love her latest book!

My vote is for A. I have multiple projects going at once, I like the variety they offer.

"C" Definitely I like that particular red and that particular brown either in combination or alone; I think it's the scale of the prints compared to the scale of pieces in the center. I like the blue-green also because it's unexpected and a little off kilter.

Of course I work on more than one quilt at a time! Mostly not with the same group of fabrics although I am working more in that direction - if only I could plan out an idea ahead of time, I'd cut for more than one quilt more often. Kinda like working in a series, only simultaneously instead of serially!

I like A best followed closely by D.
And yes I work on multipule projects at once. I think I have severer ADD.

Janet said...

I like A the best. A colorful little mini. So just how many 3" nine patches do you need to make for your queensize quilt? :0)

Kyle said...

My favorite borders are C. I like the symmetry of the two red borders and the unexpected green and brown.
Yes, I cut out multiple projects at a time as long as I making a mess, in fact, I have been working on three.

Patty ♣ said...

I really like C best. A happy quilt. Yes, I have several projects going at once.

Nifty Quilts said...

Both projects are beautiful! Love your scrappiness. I also work on more than one at a time. I vote for C.

Janet O. said...

I love your little 9-patches! This will be a great quilt. As to the border for the little quilt, I vote for A. No explanation--it just pleases me the most, though they all look good.
I go crazy if I don't have multiple projects going. I work on whatever fits my mood!

Monica said...

I like A best. I look forward to seeing what you decide.

Michelle said...

I like "B"

Betsy said...

Well, I do think you should pick A, the one with my fabric of course! lol
Have to have several quilt projects going at once. Variety is the spice of life, right?. The problem is with the meaning of 'several'...a 'few', or 'many'?

Gayle said...

Version D makes a great frame for this little quilt

moonbear_designs said...

My vote is for C
That red pops better with the reds in the quilt and it keeps it scrappy.
BTW, I finally got around to ordering History Repeated... it came in the mail a few days ago and I can't put it down! Thank you for that inspiration! I LOVE it :0)
Multiple projects! Oh yea! Jo

I have looked at each several times, and I like A. I think these colors make the center sing best. I, too, have many projects going on at the same time. Quilter's ADD is alive and well in my studio.

Mary said...

I like "A" too, it just seems not so "Christmas-y. I'm catching Quilter's ADD from all the Blog hoping I'm doing while I re-cuperate. I started at least 3 more projects. Happy New Year!

Alice said...

I like C with the three different colours in the border. If I was making it I think I would try adding the blue and have four different borders plus a crazy outer border with the pinwheels and ninepatches:)

WoolenSails said...

I like A, but I do like the touch of green in C, just not that fabric, maybe a lighter or duller green.

A is my favorite, just the right amount of red and brown to make the piecing work together. I'm making a quilt that has "bonus" triangles so I keep bags of them on hand, and I cut for one project that was getting reds and creams while working on a different red/cream. It's all about being efficient.

nine patch is forever. I'm sleeping under my nine patch quilt made many moons ago and loving it. i love your wall of little quilts - thanks for your inspiration - love nat

A is my choice. It seems warmer and more interesting than the others in my humble opinion.

Jan said...

Choice A looks best to me, and I love red and brown together anyway.
Those little 9 patchs are Sweet indeed! It does keep the creative juices flowing if I sew on more than one project. It also makes sense to cut fabric for multiple quilt projects, too. I must say that I envy your design wall - it looks massive!

Judy said...

Congrats on putting your scraps to a very good use! I like option A the best. Have fun!

Holly Field Designs said...

Hello, I love the red border in C. If I were making it, I'd use a narrow inner dark brown border, then the red in C.
I also work on several quilts at a time. I've also found a machine quilter to take most of my pieces to. I will do only what I enjoy the most.

Vivian said...

I like C best, with the symmetry of the red top and bottom, and different side borders.
I usually have more than one project going at once, mainly because I'm easily bored and easily distracted. Probably not the best traits, but with quilting, it just means I'm having great fun.

The History Repeated book I recently bought probably set my pulse racing more than any other book has done for a while. Quilt after quilt after quilt in there I'd love to make for myself.

libbyquilter said...

oh yes, i have many projects that i work on as the mood strikes me.
another serious case of quilter's ADD~! apparently there is no known cure . . . and it's extremely contagious~!

so the nine patches are made from a (cut size) one and a half inch square? they are going to make a beautiful quilt~!

i'm putting my vote in for D but it was hard to decide.

I love those nine patches! Everyone needs more than one project going, don't they? One to quilt, one to piece, one to prep, and one simmering in the brain.

Rachaeldaisy said...

I'd pick C or D. I love both quilts small and large! You really know how to use a 9 patch block!!!

Elyte said...

I'm for B and D, and always vote for the gorgeous little 9 patches.

Merilyn said...

I'd go for 'A'!!!! Love your 9-patches! I agree they create classic looking quilts!!! Thanks for the heads up about Betsy's blog!!! I have a copy of 'Gone To Texas'.

Sew Unique Creations said...

Oooooo - you've got me wanting to dive into the scrap bin - yet again! I like "A" best!

Maureen said...

Love your 9-patches and 3 inch ones are the perfect size! I would find it very hard to work on one project at a time ; c )
I like think all the borders look good, but my favorite is D.
Have fun with these little blocks and quilt!

Wintersqlts said...

I like "B" the best, the colors bring the quilt "out", I think.

Gosh, I don't want to count how many projects I have either cut out or partially completed. Every time I look at a new project or pattern, I have to slap myself down. Yea to anyone who can go a whole year without buying a thing!!

Lynn Dykstra said...

love the nine patches.
I like the borders on A.
Great multi tasking in making quilts together.

dorothy said...

I like the way A just finishes the quilt without competing with the little strips! Yes A is my favorite!

Quilter Kathy said...

Interesting to read the different comments and preferences.. I like A the best. I think the blue fabric in B is too dull and stands out too much. I really like the fabric on the right of A, B, and C!
And yes...of course I have many projects on the go at once...WAY more fun!

I'm a bit late and you have probably already have it done but I like D the best :0)

I love the quilt. My goal this year is to have my own wall of quilts. It wouldn't look like yours(I wish!) I'm kinda of a schizo quilter. Nothing really goes together.
