I wanted to make 25 square blocks but it didn't work out so I opted for 16 patch blocks. The benefit here as I cut the strips for the squares I needed for this quilt I also cut up the rest of the strip for 2 more quilts!
It is fun being able to play with color this way, just put 2 strips together, you think oh do they really go together? or thats really bold but when you start placing the blocks together they just meld all together, I love that.
Originally I was going to make a few baby quilts to donate but I think this one needs to be a twin size quilt. I will donate it and I bet some little girl will just love it don't you?
Nothing on the cutting table this morning its all on the design wall, this is how I work on a quilt like this (a bit out of my comfort zone I have to be able to step back and look!)
I put the strips on the wall

then I start matching up strips that will work together (well at least to me they work together!) today I hope to make a lot more blocks! A little bit of spring in my sewing room.

Working with these strips I really realize the benefits of buying Moda's jelly rolls, oh having these in repro fabrics , or French General, Kansas Trouble,Primitive Gatherings, 3 Sisters, Sandy Gervais, Fig Tree, Minick and Simpson....ok you get the idea!
I think I need to do some shopping !

What a lovely idea to donate for a lucky little girl. This quilt would make you feel loved for sure. Like the color combinations you have experimented with--makes a whole different block than if they are too matched!!

Holy colorfulness, Kathie! You nailed this one. Happy first thing in the morning. That's so superb. Maybe I just need to be thinking out of my box a little more. Great way to start the day. Splash of the color wheel.

Very cheerful and colorful stuff! The brights are totally out of my comfort zone too but I go to them for baby and donation quilts all the time.

Normally, I don't like 30s fabric, but the strips you have are really yummy looking-they remind me of sherbet.
I was going to suggest one of those 1600 quilts, where they're all sewn together. Your choice is so much better; I love the blocks!!

Yes, I do believe these fabrics will make some little girl very happy! It does look like spring on your design wall. I think all of us are thinking along these lines now :) Old Man Winter forgot us this year, so onward to springtime!!

It is nice to go out of our comfort zone-especially in winter! I love what you are doing and know someone will treasure your quilt.

It is going to make the heart of some little girl very happy, Kathie! These colors are out of my comfort zone, too, but sometimes it is fun to let a breath of spring blow through the sewing room! : )

I just finished a 36 block quilt. I love how I used up so much of my stash...even fabrics I wasn't crazy about. And it all works. You 16 patch blocks are inspiring me to start one. So pretty! Deb.

I think that's more than a little spring in your sewing room. Those colors are so bright it's like looking at candy. I bet it's a nice break from the repros.

The 2-fabric blocks are such fun to make, and you're right. Some young lady is going to absolutely love this when it's done. It can't be done wrong. It's just colorful and funky and total fun, no matter which fabrics you put together.

Ooo, wonderful 16 patches! Love those bright, spring-y colors in the dead of winter. And love those fun, easy quilts.

Which makes me remember . . . I have some 16-patches to get back to one of these days!

this is definitely out of your comfort zone! It is so cheering. Like it.

The 16 patch block is such a satisfying one--has a bit of tension in it being non symmetrical. Your fabric choices are so much fun.

I love, love, LOVE the colors and fabrics! Gorgeous!

If I thought for a second that I could get a selection of colors and fabrics like that, I'd be buying jelly rolls too! I would even be willing to overlook those pinked edges and the "consistency" issues in piecing!

I love what you are doing with these strips, your blocks look wonderful and yes, they will make a great quilt for a young lady! It is nice to work with brights for a change, it freshens your creativity!!!!

Great idea! I love making blocks with squares... just simple, and the color makes the impact. I was going to suggest one of Bonnie Hunter's designs for "trip around world" or the shorter version using six strips to make a block where the six colors are oriented diagonally. Check out my finished quilt (on my blog) --it's made with strips and squares.
I like your color choices! SPRING... it has to come soon!
