as i wait patiently (OK NOT patiently for this fabric to arrive!) Collection for a Cause Friendship line by Howard Marcus should be arriving to quilt shops soon. I have been studying a few red and green antique applique quilts that I want to reproduce and started thinking about the hand quilting too, I pulled these out yesterday and well just in awe just look at the quilting in the next few pictures....to die for! Isn't it funny how we love them whether they are 6 stitches to an inch, 12 stitches to an inch , perfect not perfect. Why oh why are we so hard on ourselves?
my goal is to hand quilt more and just stop being so obsessed with perfect stitches and do my best.
thought you would enjoy seeing the hand quilting on a few of the antique quilts I will be reproducing the next year.
But first a PLEA to MODA please let Barbara Brackman do a poison green /acid green/lime green you know those greens in the quilts from the 1850's or so fabric line to go with this fabric line...WE NEED THEM to reproduce the antique quilts we all love....PLEASE!
so leave me a comment if your one of those quilters always looking for these turkey reds and poison greens from the mid 1800's , maybe I need to start a petition think it will work?

I know you don't want to hear it, but there are poison greens in that box...
I just LOVE Red, Cheddar & Poison Green together! They are very hard to find (if not impossible)in the perfect combination. After looking long & hard I did find a couple "close to poison" prints last year by Jo Morton.
It would be great if Moda let BB put out a line of these poison greens. Better still an entire line of Red, Cheddar & Poison! I'd join the stampede/line at the quilt shops to buy it!
Add my name to the list too, Kathie.
I would love to see a whole line of 1850's greens and reds. :)
I love reds to but greens are not so my color I love pinks more. But a petition to moda will be a good thing I think.
Anneke
I hope your plea to Moda will be heard. :-)
Yes Kathie! More poison greens please. O and more prussian blue. I'd definitely sign a petition :-)
Yummy reds! I agree they need some poison greens to go with them. I think I need to possess these reds anyways! Off to shop online.
POISON PLEASE! I'm drooling on my keyboard over your REDS!
yes I hope Moda hears too--
sure that Moda will hear you!!! And about hand quiltiing, I think that it truly gives a quilt a real antique feeling that will last a long time in the future.
I do have one machine quilted quilt which is awesome but I am sure it would have been even greater with hand quilting.
Here, here! I love poison green! Cheddar and turkey red too! (And I will be looking for Friendship.)I wonder if Howard has an antique quilt in that color combination that can be his next collection for a cause...
Put my name on the list for Poison please .
It's even harder to find it here in Belgium.
Love your blog and those reds are fabulous .
Great looking reds and yes, yes to the poison green love that and there is never enough.
good luck with the hand quilting and you have the right attitude!
Poison green, turkey red, cheddar, double pinks and prussian blue please!!!!And some good tans wouldn't be bad either!
You know I am one who will snap up any and all of the fabrics I need to make a reproduction of mid 1800's applique quilts. My dream is to sit down with a fabric manufacturer with some of my old quilts in hand and chat about what we repro lovers are looking for. Judie R's Lancaster and Baltimore lines come to mind... Mary Koval had some successful colors/prints with her album line last year but that was hard to find in shops and ran out quickly (hint to manufacturer - it ran out; send more).
Oh, and my fingerprints are all over my monitor now because I am trying to flip over those quilts and get a look a the front of them.
I totally agree! I can't stand all the weird 70's combo fabrics that are on the shelves. I want to make reproduction and old fashioned quilts. The kind that people will still be excited about in 10 - 20 years. Bring on the poison green, the turkey reds, chrome yellow, cheddar and double pinks. They make my heart sing and would make my credit card wear out.
Oh yes, more of the poison greens and always more red :)
You have my vote for them!
Put my name on the list too! I am in agreement with all the above comments! :)
Carolyn
More proper Turkey Reds please! Yes, we need 'em!
I too can't wait for the reds to arrive. I am trying to find a local shop that has ordered the reds, so far no luck.
Yes! Yes! We need the greens to, I agree!
Thank you for recommending "Welsh Quilts and the Amish Connection". My copy arrived last week and I love it! The quilts/quiting has me thinking about more handquilting, as well.
I would live to have my name added to the list to see some of those greens in fabrics.
I too have been waiting for the yardage of friendship to hit the stores. They are some of the prettiest turkey refs I've seen!! I did buy some of the fat quarters when they came out.
Yes, I love to look at all hand quilted quilts whatever the stitch looks like. Hand quilted quilts are what inspired me to begin quilting in the first place. It's a great way to take your cares elsewhere when hand quilting.
Reds and greens are the best! I too love your reds and am always looking for greens to go with them.
Turkey red and poison green with a side of cheddar - what could be better? But they are unfortunately often difficult to find.
I look forward to seeing what you make out of those yummy reds.
Dear Moda,
Please do not discriminate against the poison greens - we NEED them, lots of them.
Sincerely,
A quilter
:-D
I can't wait for that Friendship line to come out!! I agree totally about the poison greens, and there needs to be more cheddar with them!!
Like Taryn, I'm trying to see the fronts of those quilts too :0) It's not working very well - lol.
i completely agree with your plea...could you please add a perfect 'cheddar' color to the green and red request...i've been searching.
Hey! We are doing a very nice green on the yellow side in the next Civil War reproduction line to be out in the late summer or fall. It'll be called Metropolitan Fair. Tell your quilt shop to look for it at Quilt Market in May. There are good greens out there now. And don't forget to look at batiks with a lime green swirl to them. They look like the damaged solid greens from about 1850.
Petition signer here!!
I agree more poison green! I'll sign a petition.
I'll join the drive for poison greens. The few I've been able to find have too much black printed on them - not what I need!
You best bet I'm one of those quilters always on the look out for what my quilting girlfriend calls "puke green"! I call it lovely and very NECESSARY!
My biggest gripe with Moda lately is that they have my favorite designers doing collections that are not in tune with what we expect from them. At least Barbara Brackman's last few collections have been nice, no so much when thinking of Jan Patek or Blackbird designs.
Oh well...thank goodness I have a repro stash that is fairly well stocked, except for that poison green!!
I agree......Barbara is the one to do it, too! And some really good cheddars, too, with the poison green and reds.
And you're right, we need to be less hard on ourselves, and just enjoy the process of hand quilting. The end result will always be lovely, no matter how much we beat ourselves up!
Oh yes... you know I"m a turkey red/poison green lover!!!! And there is nothing better than hand quilting on an old quilt. I could just look at that quilting forever!
Yes, I would love to see poison greens with those reds, and perhaps, just a few cheddars. Wonderful quilting on your lovely quilts.
Yes, a whole line with poison green, reds and a bit of cheddar thrown in would be a dream collection. You cant beat hand quilting for feel and looks, we are too hard on ourselves and we should let that go. I have the same goals as you this year.
I'm waiting for the same line of fabrics! The reds are great!!
Can't get enough turkey red and poison green here! Also love some cheddar.
I'd sign!!
As to not being so hard on ourselves--I'll have to work on that! : )
I really get frustrated when I am looking for a particular shade of any color. After the fifth trip and nothing to go with what I am making I begin to wonder what the fabric people are thinking. Those reds sure caught my eye.
I'd love more turkey reds and poisen greens. Hard to find.
I agree, finding good greens is like trying to find hen's teeth, and I love greens, all the ones you mentioned too LOL!!! Love the turkey reds too - hard to get a nice variety of them!
Think we can get someone to make a TRUE Turkey Red ie boiled in oil Turkey red??? That would be awesome. The only way (IMHO) to get a truly authentic poison green is to overdye like it was done in the 1860's any fabric manufacturers up fo that?? The best lime green Ive found to mimic antique quilt greens is a Reece Scannel chambray style weave with a green warp and yellow weft called "peridot"...of course he doesn't make it anymore but I'm nagging.... we can only hope...
Put my name down...Love all the Reds, Cheddar & Poison Green, and most definately a great Lime Green, my favourite.
Add my name to any mid 1800s repro fabric line!
