when I should have been sewing the rows together of my nine patch and hst quilt I decided to whip up this little quilt today!
See what happens when a friend says go look in this book, Simple Graces by Kim Diehl, so as I was flipping thru the book to see what she was talking about I came across this little quilt. There isn't a real pattern for it she suggests making it from your left overs from one of her quilts, I thought OH I can do that from the left overs of all these nine patches I just made. See leftovers are good! maybe that should be the name of the quilt? If it was your little quilt what would you call it???? Start thinking of a name ...why??? cause I cut a kit for someone to make the quilt too! So if you would like to win a kit for this little quilt just leave me a comment. I will pick A winner by Thursday this week

Here is the book by Kim....love her quilts.

What a nice mini Kathie and yes it is great to use up leftovers like this! Kim Diehl has a great taste and makes beautiful quilts.

You could call it "Rock Soup". If you don't remember that story, it was about a traveler who invited everyone to come and have rock soup with him. Everyone brought a different item i.e. onion, carrot, herbs etc. and he put it all in a pot of water along with his rock. At the end of the day they all enjoyed a lovely soup.

I love Kim's books and have all of them, and even though I've not made any, I love looking at the pictures of the quilts and the decor. Little Scraps might be a fitting name for your small quilt. Leftovers also seems to suit it as we all have them. Thanks for the chance to win the kit.

Sally A said...

Call it leftovers in a minute, great for a gift too. I like Kim Diehi books. Have a good day!

MJinMichigan said...

Love your leftovers quilt. It's a good idea to try to keep up with the scraps rather than letting them multiply out of control like I have in the past. Now it's a major project to get them under control but I'd hate to throw them out.
Kim was scheduled to teach for my local quilt guild but cancelled due to health problems. Hopefully it's not too serious since she is still doing a workshop on Mackinac Island this spring. I was really disappointed because I've wanted to take a class from her ever since I saw her do a trunkshow of her quilts a couple years ago.

Libby said...

I think the leftovers sometimes make the best quilts *s*

Amy said...

I would love to have your leftovers to make my own "Nine Patch Casserole!" Many thanks for the opportunity.

Maureen said...

I really like the "Leftovers" names, but also thought of "Plannedovers" That is what we eat here instead of leftovers.

Kimmer said...

I'm going to say "The Brown Bag Quilt" becuase all my leftovers become brown-bagged lunches for my kids, and you never know eactly what'll be in there!
Thanks for the chance!

libbyquilter said...

i like stone soup or sticks and stones but you have a lot of great names to choose from here.

a cute little quilt and thank for the opportunity to win a kit of it.

Kim visited our guild a couple of years ago and although i wasn't able to take the classes i did get to enjoy her trunk show. beautiful stuff~!!~

Shirley said...

My friend Joan used to make Gypsy Pie and I asked her why she called it that and she said it was because she put in whatever she had leftover and what she could use from her storecupboard. So, Gypsy Pie would be my name. Lovely idea and a lovely little quilt.

Barb said...

another winner little quilt!!

Nancy E said...

Love Kim Diehl's books! Can't really think of a name that hasn't been mention .... "Leftover Delight" is one I like best or did I combine two names?

Vivian said...

Kim's unique combo of piecing and applique is the reason I own 3 of her books. Such fun to wander through her quilts and add more projects to my bucket list.
You could start a series and this would be Leftovers #1, though I know this isn't your first cute use of scraps.

Quilts And Pieces said...

I just love all your little quilts you whip up!!! I think my name would have to be
"Leftovers are a Girls Best Friend"!
