Yesterday my fat quarter bundle of Seasonal Little Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings arrived. I just love her fabrics/colors, I also had ordered the fit to be geese rulers that were so highly recommended for making flying geese here
I had this book out waiting for this fabric line and the rulers, its a great book and here is the wonderful antique quilt in it that I want to reproduce. I may just have to try these rulers out today, will let you know what I think and well isn't that a good enough excuse to start a new quilt? new fabric and new rulers????
Don't you just love all these colors in this bundle, I am hesitant about opening it up! I just love looking at it!
don't like this new blogger layout have to figure out how to get the words and pictures where I want them
sorry....
I have been asked why do I buy fat quarter bundles, quick answer is its a way for me to add fabrics to my stash color-wise I normally wouldn't buy and I really don't need to add big pieces of fabric to my collection (stash). I love making scrappy quilts and fat quarters work for me. If its a line I love I will order 1/2 yards of the whole line, if its a fabric I love, turkey reds/poison greens/ cheddars I won't even say how many yards I will order of each one.
Blacks, shirtings, purples for me right now are low I am search for those....I will order 1/2 yards easily!
I am always curious how people buy fabric....do you buy fat quarter bundles? 1/2 yard bundles if so why????

I've been a bit confused by the new blogger too. I can see why you're excited by that bundle of yummy fabrics!! And I love that flying geese quilt!!! I've never seen them flying on the diagonal like that. I'm going to love see your version take shape.
Wonderful fabric, wonderful pattern, where did you buy this ruler?
I love fat quarter bundles. I (long ago) only bought yardage, and then didn't use it. I love scrap quilts so it makes sense to buy fat quarters. I now have lots and lots of scraps but mainly just buy white and black in yardage.
Karen
I have bought a little bit of that fabric too. Love those reds. Can you tell me where you bought the flying geese ruler? We have been looking in our shops without success.
Lovely gorgeous fabrics, all bundled so nicely :) I know, it's makes you just want to sit and gaze at it lol! OPEN IT LOL!
Too yummy. I love that line as well and if my LQS would have had it all bundled up last time I was in - I would have bought it but they didn't so there you go. I didn't. Love this post, Kathie. Great question. My rule of thumb is "2 Yds" on anything I love. Charm packs to see what I might like to add to the stash. Bundles as my heart beats and the budget allows. Turkey Reds, Reds, Cheddar always. Poison Green and Pinks. Currently spying just that right light blue. Pretty repro greens hard to find so I spy for those.
2 yd pieces if I love it. Already said that. Guess I mean that, ha? Oh - and aside from Cheddar - I do collected or hoard shirtings.
So pretty! I've never bought a FQB - I usually buy yardage, anything from 1/8th to yards depending on my mood. I'm slowly trying to figure out the new blogger. I had luck last time adding words, then a picture, then words, then another picture. Maybe someone will figure it out and do a tutorial soon.
I adore that antique quilt! I can't wait to see your version. I think I need to get myself that book, I'd love to make that quilt as well!
I purchase fat quarter bundles every now and then. They are lines from designers that I usually like what they come up with. Then I can order yardage for a border or more background fabric after I see what I like. I am not much into jelly rolls or charm squares though the charm squares is a good way to see a sample. The local quilt shops do not carry much in the style fabrics I am drawn to so a sample allows me to plan and then order yardage online.
Love the new fat quarters and I particularly love the quilt pattern. So much so that I think I've just added it to my TO DO list. I too have a new Flying Geese ruler that is waiting to be broken in (different style, mine is by Lazy Girl) but I have been making myself hold off in starting a project with it until one or two that are in progress are finished up. Thankfully I'm in the last stages of one project so I'm seeing Geese on the horizon soon...
I used to buy fat quarters and 1/2 yard cuts all the time. Now I am in the process of trying to use them up! Too much fabric everywhere to justify buying more. Scrappy quilts will be the only thing on the horizon for some time.
Beautiful fabrics.Enjoy playing with them!!
Picked up some pieces for my stash too! Love the oranges. Saw a darling fall HST quilt that they would look fabulous in. Have fun with yours.
I love your new fabric bundle! I'm always drawn to fall colors.
I like your idea on purchasing FQ bundles to build your stash too!
Love your bundle!! I buy small pieces most of the time because most of what i make is scrappy.
I look forward to your ruler review.
I love fat quarter bundles! I typically make smaller, scrappy quilts so I don't feel I need a lot of any one fabric. (sashing and borders excluded!) The most I usually will buy is a yard.
Love your new bundle!!

Love your new bundle!!
Those are my favorite colors to work and decorate with, also. I have never been a bright, flower, modern quilter. I'll check this line out. Your quilt will be beautiful, be sure to show your progress as it grows on your design board.
Oh, that is a gorgeous bundle of fabrics. Love Primitive Gatherings stuff!
I've never purchased a FQ bundle--have nothing against them, just can't afford them. : )
I buy a few FQs and if I really love something I will get 1/2 a yard. When it is time for borders I often buy 2-3 yards. I like length of grain borders and don't like them pieced if I can help it. I work the rest of that into the backing or save it for another quilt, if it is a color I often use.
I love fat quarters too, easier to store and makes matching fabrics, so much easier for me.
Debbie
I've never bought a bundle or a charm pack......I guess I want a huge piece of whatever fabric I like. I usually buy 1/2 yard pieces of stuff I know I'll want, but if it's a really yummy print, then I'll buy at least a yard. And anything I think might make a great border or back, I'll get at least 3 yards. I usually piece my backs, so 3 is always enough, but then I'll have lots extra to play with!
And yeah.....why did we need more headache from Blogger? Sheesh! I love that they think it is now better......Argh! I couldn't find a dang thing on my dashboard when it changed......I was totally used to the old way. I don't like change! lol
What a beautiful selection of fabric. I usually buy charm packs, but I do have two bundles. I too don't like the blogger change. I had to go back to the old interface because I could not figure out how to get my pictures from my computer library. Having to download everything to Picasa takes too much time. Did you figure it out?? I also can't get back to my dashboard if I go to the New Post page. This is NOT going to be fun.
What a lovely line of fabric! I can't wait to see how your reproduction goes! I love flying geese. I'm curious to see how you like the ruler - I'm not much of a gadget person either.
I found the changes Blogger made very annoying. I guess we'll get used it ...
I usually buy small peices of fabric - I've never bought a FQ bundle but I've sure been tempted to :0)
I love fat quarters. I love applique and scrap quilting and so small pieces of fabric are great for me. Your new bundle is beautiful!
I love the seasonal themes in this one. I picked up a little yardage with pumpkins, Christmas, etc., to go with my tower. This is going to be a fun line to work with.
I used to buy lots of fat quarter bundles but now I'm very, very selective. Your new one is fabulous - can't wait to see what you decide to do with it.
I can't argue with the convenience of a FQB--all the bases are covered and I don't have to decide which ones to buy, which to skip. I've bought a few now and then, but only when on sale. I'm a real tightwad at times.
I'm sure you'll have a special project in store for your yummy new FQs. We'll stay tuned and anticipate the fun :)
Looks like a fun quilt. Beautiful fabric. Look forward to hearing how you like the ruler.
Don't you love that book?! You certainly can't tell by the cover how many great, old quilts are in there. That diagonal geese is so very worthy of reproducing.
Fabric purchases are few and far betwee for me since I just have way too much. When I do buy, it is usually third yard pieces, but if it is a wonderful blue or brown, there will be yardage involved!
Great fabrics. I too love their new line. I am not liking the new blogger. Change is hard.
It is hard for me to resist a line of fabrics all coordinated and bundled!! I usually did not have lots of time to shop--so I would get the bundles, knowing they would go into a future quilt at some date. Now that I have more time to shop--I still love them for being able to see the colors in the line. Then it is easy to pick out background & sashing fabrics!! Hope you decide to open them--you finish your projects & they will be in a wonderful quilt!!
Just love your bundle of fabric! I find it hard to open up fat quarter bundles too. They arrive looking so gorgeous and I don't want to mess that up.
I won a Mini Fit to be Geese ruler from Monique very recently. I loved it so much I ordered the larger one! (my flying geese used to be very sad!! Lol)
Great fabric bundle! They do look wonderful together.
Have fun with the quilt!
I used to buy precuts so I could have all the fabrics from a line, but now I prefer to pick and choose a few favourite fabrics I know I will use.
LOVE the Seasonal fabric line by PG. I bought several of the colors in half yards! LOL I buy half yards and fat quarters. They are good sizes for most quilts. There are certain fabrics that I will buy by the yard, but they have to be a special print. I'm a fabric junky so fat quarters are a great way to satisfy the quilting desires as well as my fabric desires :D :D
Love those rulers. I think they work great!
Oh boy, that looks like a great book and a fabulous big fat quarter pile. You're going to have fun with the ruler and the goodies.
Yummy, keep at 'em.
Wild by Design is one of my alltime favorite books. Love the format, having the experts talk about what makes each quilt interesting. wish they'd left out the art quilts though. got some yummy fabrics there! I mainly buy fat quarters or thirds these days. scrappy scrappy.
I've always loved fat quarter bundles...get some of all the fabric and then can get more of the ones I really love.
I love fabric bundles, too. I like to look at all the colors, and especially the way they blend together. Sometimes it is a shame to open them up!
I love FQB's, and I did lash out and get that bundle! I just couldn't let those gorgeous reds and purples pass me by! I feel the same about unpacking it all, I just love looking at them too - are we weird or what LOL!!!!!
Where did you get your ruler, it looks like it could be very useful!!!!
I do love those fat quarter bundles and, like you, I'm loathe to open them! They do look so pretty all done up!! Enjoy the fabrics.
