Happy Memorial Day!

as a child this was always one of my favorite holidays....still is today. I grew up in a town that had a great parade and always went to the best bar b ques , funny how certain things you remember from your childhood.
this is one of my favorite little quilts I have ever made. I hand quilted using one of my favorite all over quilting patterns, baptist fans.
I tried to replicate the antique quilt even down to the binding, big leap for me at the time! The binding didn't match the quilt!!!

I used an appropriate backing fabric don't you think?
Something I am trying to do more and more of, using fun backs on little quilts, I actually search out fabrics just to use for backs now, thanks to Barb! the queen of great backing fabrics!

every once in a while I run the clothes lint brush over my little quilts to get the dust off . This little quilt is always out on one of my antique singer sewing machine tables I have so it does get dusty , I admit!
The antique quilt is in the Small Endearment Book by Sandi Fox, a great source of inspiration for me.

next little quilt to bind, this one was machine quilted with baptist fans.

I have always admired that antique quilt you reproduced. Great job, by the way. It is still on my list of "someday" projects. I love yours.

What a great little patriotic quilt and beautiful quilting on it, Kathie.
Your machine quilter also did a very nice job on the baptist fans.

The fan quilting on both of these is perfect. I am quilting freehand fans on a doll quilt right now, and wondering why I hadn't done it sooner! Love 'em both!

Love your inspired flag quilt. I thank you because this has inspired me too.
Several years ago I purchased yards and yards of Jo Mortons blue background fabric with white stars on it because it was becoming somewhat scares to find. Didn't know how I would use it but just knew I needed it.
Well, now I know how I am going to use some of it. Thanks for posting about your quilt.
Love the backing you chose too. Don't think I will be able to find that but also kind of what my own something too.
Have a great weekend.

Great little quilts! I'll have to remember to use a lint brush to dust my little quilts. Good idea! I must get a copy of this book.

A perfect quilt to share today. It is striking and the hand quilting is gorgeous. Is your machine quilter using a miniature fan quilting pattern? The scale looks perfect on your small quilts.

Excellent Memorial Day (and summer generally) quilt! I have to admit, adding the odd fabric border would be a challenge for me, too, even though I like the quirkiness. You don't notice it so much on your quilt but it really pops out in the photo of the original. I saw it in the Kiracoffe book I was browsing through this past weekend.

Do you recall how you marked your baptist fans?
