Continuing with my visit to the Gloucester County Historical Society Museum, see my original post .
Here are a few more quilts,  think scrappy!  its all about the fabrics isn't it???
I just love this postage stamp quilt , 1" squares , 11,664 squares . An Amazing quilt.
It was such a beautiful quilt. I wish it was opened up and hanging for us to see, I can only imagine how graphic it was with the red  solid diagonal rows , stunning.

the next quilt is in the NJ Quilts 1777 to 1950 Contributions to an American Tradition, the documentation book .
I found this quilt so interesting to see in person, they used grey as a neutral, which seems to be a big trend right now!, and a tan/caramels on the other side.  The quilt is beautiful and I was thrilled to see it in person after studying it for years in the book, yes that page is earmarked for me to make a quilt inspired by this one.

someday.!  Look at the center a bit different then the way we usually make this style quilt today.  I will have to recreate mine like she did , Its what makes the quilt interesting to me..
did you notice the center was elongated?
Here is another scrappy quilt which was another great fabric study...

It was such a joy to see these antique quilts in person if your anywhere near Woodbury NJ make the trip.  Tell Kathy I said hi!   I have decided to go back I need to see the quilt I will blog about next again.  I need to take more pictures of the fabrics in it.  I was just in awe of her fabric combinations....have I spiked your interest?

Thanks for sharing the photos from this museum, Kathie. I love that top one, all of the little squares with the dominant red diagonals. After making Molly's quilt, you'd think I would have had enough of little squares, but they're so easy to work with and pack a visual punch. I'll be coming back to this one!

Wonderful quilts. I especially like the postage stamp quilt with the red squares. I've had one on my "to do" list for quite sometime.

11000+ pieces!! I don't think I can really imagine actually pulling that off. Unless, perhaps, if I took all my UFO's and stitched them together...

Gorgeous....all three! But I just put the first on my 'must make' list! Thanks a bunch! Can't wait for the next post!

So nice to see you back in blog world, I really missed your posts.
Thank you so much for sharing your photos from this exhibition, always a joy to see quilts made by our quilting sisters of old. When I think of all those pieces in the postage stamp quilt being cut with scissors I am in awe!!

oh my.
I think you just set my schedule of sewing for the next few months.
I am trying to figure out the internal blocks to make that postage stamp one. Any hints from seeing it in person?

Thank you for sharing and I wish I could see them in person too! Wow so interesting.

Things of beauty. I, too, wish the postage stamp quilt was open for full viewing. Amazing.

That elongated center is really interesting. If the center is oriented vertically in one block, it's horizontal in the adjoining block.

Yes, absolutely you have spiked my interst. I love 'older' quilts. They are so inspirational... if only they could talk the tales they could tell us!

I love the quilt with the irish chain/log cabin combination. It is all about the color placement. I'm going to have to study it. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I've got thousands of those one inch blocks marked and cut. It would only take time to put them all together. I do like that arrangement.

Thank you for posting the photo of the postage stamp quilt with the red diagonals! I have been hoarding 2" charms from swaps now for many months wondering just what I want to do with them. This quilt spoke to me!
Thanks!
