The goal this week is for this to be a top and at the machine quilters to be quilted ASAP so I can use it during the month of December this year.
Since this quilt is for me I really did think about hand quilting it. The pattern is so busy I doubt the hand quilting will really show anyway and this way it can be used this year (can you tell I am trying to reason with myself not to hand quilt it.)
The blocks are 9" finished, 3" nine patch blocks. The quilt will be 81" square unless I decide to add borders. then it would just be the toile probably 6" each side, making the quilt 93" square, then a nice feather quilting on the border would be amazing!
so would you hand quilt it or send it out to be quilted?
Did you see this quilt on Lynn's blog? I can't stop thinking about it. I fell in love with the day I saw it.
She shared the pattern for the quilt, its officially on my list of quilts to make.

I loved this pile of fabrics and then she starts making baskets, oh you know how much I love baskets
I think I need to start collecting a pile of fabrics like this....
I know I have some of them :) thanks Jan for the inspiration....
Then Tim shows he is hand quilting a beautiful antique tablecloth for Christmas, ok now why didn't I think of that???? I love this idea and I have a table cloth is a store I have been looking at, ok its not antique but after Christmas when it goes on sale I am going to have to buy it if I don't find one on ebay sooner!
Then Kate last week showed a quilt I have wanted to make for a long time
I even started one last year , made my own template cut out quite a few and actually appliquéd a few down! Then moved onto something else....
Then there is Janet's blog where I am always in AWE of her work and her ability to make these amazing heirloom quilts and stick with the plan! She finishes the quilts and hand quilts them!
Her Stars and Sprigs quilt, her red and green applique quilt and then theres trailing vines quilt
all on my list, some started....
This blue and white , Indigo Revival quilt by Polly and Laurie, you know I am waiting on this fabric line to hit the market, I need to make this quilt!
Then I see Kaaren's post and her house looks so inviting for Christmas makes me want to make more Christmas style quilts....
this is just a few of the blogs, you know I could go on and on and on....
I am starting to understand why my list of quilts I have wanted to make never gets done, way too much inspiration in blogland but I would not change it one bit! Its fun to be inspired and fun to see what others are making . FINALLY though I am learning I don't need to make all these quilts. I can enjoy what I see and continue working on the quilt I am working on and finish it.
Less UFO"s is in my future!
How many times have I stopped a project cause I saw a quilt I just had to make too!
maybe this should be my 2013 resolution...stick with the plan! Be inspired by color, by fabric of others quilts but stick to the plan! Finish some of those long term projects I have going and make a new quilt once in a while....can you relate????

Whole hearterly relate.
If we didn't spend so much time reading blogs we might achieve a bit more. LOL
Your quilt is coming on beautifully. Stick with it.
It is true that with that busy fabric the quilting will not show much but a beautiful hand-quilted feathered border to set it off would be frosting on the cake. Well, you may know I do everything by hand ... but I do have one large quilt waiting in the wings for hoop-time.
Oh my, that red quilt is so beautiful, I remember when you bought that bird fabric. I was so envy : )
lol Yes, I know exactly where you are coming from.
Yes! I can definitely relate! However, I am trying to be good and get some projects finished this year and next year. I just can't start anything else - maybe a hand piecing project, since I am not going to be doing any hand quilting for a while. I am doing my own machine quilting, though. I love your 9-patch, and I would not want to hand quilt it at this point. Maybe some day - I sure hope so. I would have to send it out or machine quilt it myself. I really enjoyed Kaaren's house tour! Oh, I do wish my house could look like that!
I was just thinking the same thing. Much as I love all the inspiration I see in blog land, I really want to focus on some of my own projects without being distracted by too many new ideas. On the other hand I do love the freedom and creativity of going from project to project. Oh, what's a girl to do?
Gorgeous toile quilt! Wow. I heart trees and that is a lovely tree quilt.
I'm loving the quilt a lot and I agree with you on getting it finished for this year. I doubt the hand quilting would show up so save it for another quilt.
I think I've been tempted by a lot of the same quilts and blogs, thanks for all the great links.
That quilt is beautiful. Hand quilting is one thing I do love and it would be wonderful on that top, but then you have to think of what year you want to put it on the bed or display it. I am a very slow hand quilter. The machine quilter can do it in a day or two and have it back to you. Blogs always inspire you to want to make more..thanks for sharing
I would hand quilt the quilt, just straight diagonal lines. OK, you will not finish it this year.
And I lóve basket quilts too, I love the small baskets you show, they are also on my list. But first quilting my Trick or Treat baskets...
I love your toile 9 patch....you are adding to my list of quilts to do!!
thanks for all the links , great inspiration in all ( I think I might need to try Lynn's tree block as well)Great stuff
I make so many quilts in my head and have told myself that next year is the year for me and making some quilting time just for me
That sure is a lovely quilt you are working on. I think I would go ahead and have it machine quilted too. Those big ones take a while to hand quilt.
That is a wonderful bunch of fall fabrics. I think I must go over and check those out. Now I'm wondering what fabric line they are from.
Tim's blog is always delightful. I've never known anyone to hand quilt as fast as he can. He inspires me.
Enjoy the Christmas season!
I can so relate lol. I have at least 200 quilts screaming in my head all the time to get made.
Great red toile quilt! Great links too for inspiration. I would machine quilt the red quilt.
Of course we all relate to all the inspiration in blog land. Quilters are so creative. All the links you posted probably added several ideas to everyone's list! I know it did to mine.
I agree the hand quilting wouldn't really show up on the toile fabric so I'd have the quilt machine quilted and enjoy it this Christmas. It's so hard to resist starting new projects especially when I see something absolutely wonderful on a blog which happens a lot. This year I've tried really hard to finish some UFOs and am definitely seeing progress. It feels good to be clearing them out and I'm almost at the point where I can start something new! I'm always envious of how much you get done but sometimes wonder what has happened to a project you have started but then stop showing. I think most quilters have a stack of UFOs and try to think of it as part of the creative process.
Your quilt has really grown! It will look fabulous on your bed! I'm with you: get those projects finished before moving on!
Great Post! Stick to the plan is a good plan...but one I rarely follow! LOL. Sooo many beautiful quilts to make and never enough time!!
And I forgot to say I LOVE your red and white quilt! Outstanding!
Can so relate! Let me know your secret if you do succeed in sticking with the plan!
Oh, that red and white quilt is going to be stunning.
I can relate and now you have me checking out the links. LOL
I love the table cloth idea.
the nine patch red and white quilt is wonderful, and now on my list!
I love, love, love your toile quilt. It would be wonderful to handquilt it however I think you should get it to the long arm quilter so you can enjoy it this holiday season. :-)
Yes, there is so much inspiration in blogland. Some days it truly boggles my mind.
I love the progress you are making on your newest quilt. I'd probably send it out to be quilted:) Only because, like you said, the stitches won't be seen that much anyway. The toile is the star of that show!!
I think I would machine this one and save my hand quilting for something where it would shine more.
Enjoyed all the links to the blogs.
It is really had not to succumb to temptation and your blog is one of the one’s that seems to lead me astray.
Longarm quilt the toile quilt so you can enjoy it this year - you wouldn't be able to see the hand quilting on this.
I can completely relate to being tempted by so many antique quilts that I see; however, like you, I need to stick to the plan. Better to make the ones on my list than none at all.
I always enjoy your posts, though, with all the links to the other blogs and what you have been reading and others are doing. ;)
Judy
The consensus seems to be machine quilting for the 9-patch, and I agree. Let that Toile shine and save the hand quilting for a time it can shine, too.
So go ahead and throw more temptation in my path!
Lynn's tree quilt is GORGEOUS! And that selection of fall colored fabrics for baskets--love it!!
I don't even dare click on the other links right now. Where do you draw the line? : )
Kathie, I love your red and white quilt and I would have it machine quilted. Like you said hand quilting might get lost.
I can also relate to being tempted.
I can TOTALLY relate! I pared down my list of quilts I wanted to make to a "Top 100" list.....and now there are over 200 in THAT list! Sheesh! lol I need to live to be 132! :o)
And yes.....send that quilt to a longarmer and enjoy it THIS season! It's stunning, and you will be so happy getting to use it now! Yay!
I can relate! I went to the LQS yesterday because I forgot to get sashing fabric for the current project and left with sashing and a fabric for a pattern I'd purchased on Saturday. The to-do pile may never be finished. I need longer days.
For the toile quilt, I think your reasons for sending it out are good ones. I should add I've never sent one out but hand quilting really wouldn't show on this one.
LOVE the pictures you posted!!!
Relate??? I think you were writing what was in my brain!!! LOL Blogland is amazing - and I've decided it's okay to have a zillion quilts going - even if they are in my head!! But alas, I too, want to finish some - so will stick to a plan!!
You know me and nine patches!! The red & white one is lovely!!!
Blessings
I love this toile quilt! I agree that hand quilting wouldn't show up and it would be lovely for you to be able to use it asap! And I agree that there is so much inspiration out there that the list of quilts to make is getting longer, and longer.
This quilt is going to be incredible! You'll never want to get out of bed!
Thanks for sharing the things you've found on other blogs. Pretty amazing stuff. Your nine-patch is coming along nicely. I do prefere a hand quilted item but it's because of the play of light and shadow on the fabric. This quilt wouldn't show that off very well. So, machine quilt by all means.
I totally agree with you!! You nailed it! LOL!! Love your red toile quilt- gorgeous!
Thanks for all the links - now you have just made my list longer !!
Perhaps the thing is to make one quilt that has all the ideas in there together - could be a huge challenge there....?
The red toile is coming along beautifully. I love the look of hand quilting but totally sympathise with the time it takes. A simple machine quilting would be perfectly lovely for this quilt I am sure. Maybe you could add some red hand quilting with perle thread just as a highlight? - just an idea for a compromise.
Every Stitch
The sooner it's quilted, the sooner you can start to use it, it's gorgeous and perfect for Christmas.
looking great Kathie - what a great quilt for December!
thanks for all the links!
I'd have to send that quilt out or I'd do it on my Gammill but I don't do hand quilting. It would be so pretty done that way.
Oh my, so much on this blog post! Thanks for all the links to see the wonderful eye-candy! Yes, it's hard to not get distracted. I had a terrible time with that this year - I wanted to start something new sooo bad! But I stuck with my plan and finished what I was supposed to. Now I'm letting myself start something new. It's hard - so much inspiration on the blogs! And I love it!
You toile quilt is just beautiful! I wouldn't hand quilt if you want to use it this year. And I agree with everyone - I don't think the quilting would show much on this. Save it for something where you can feature it. Just my opinion, of course!
