Our power went on last night around 5 pm, it was so wonderful to wake up and have hot coffee in my favorite coffee mug this am...ah those small things in life we treasure without evening realizing.
no internet and no tv yet but hey my sewing machine works now!  I have heat and lights, what could be better?????   It will be a few days before those return they are saying.
from one of the shopping on line orders I made Orchard  House by Windham  during the storm!
I bought the fat quarter bundle but you can bet I am going to order a few more of some of them.
Look at these grey prints wow, love them almost as much as the same prints as the browns!

isn't this a great print, a great inner border but oh look at this....
oh my gosh wouldn't this make a great binding on the bias...wow.
I know how much grey has become a neutral and so popular right now. they did a great job with these 3 prints in mho...
This is a big reason I love buying fat quarter bundles you find  fabrics you might not buy other wise and plus just the right size for so many of my projects I can cut them up for.  Great variety of colors in this line, the reds and browns are great too.  I am so glad I found out that Homestead Hearth makes fat quarter and half yard bundles from many different fabric companies.
OH isn't it nice to be reading about fabric and quilting again...
trust me though life is not back to normal here in NJ and NY  it is still incredible how many people are still without power and how many lost everything.  Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
Again thank you to all of you that sent me emails and comments on my blog .
We could not cook our stove is electric, we did have hot water  and no we do not have a working fireplace.  Two things we decided is to convert our fireplace to gas and we already ordered a full house generator thru the gas company will take 6 to 8 weeks to get delivered.  4 weeks without power in a little over a year is just too much to not have a generator like this.
Have a good weekend , I will be back when our internet is back and look forward to visiting blogs again and getting my life back to my normal schedule...

So happy to hear you're back in business, Kathie! I've been waiting for this post.
Nice fabric line. I missed this one somehow but can always count on you to keep us up to date on what's new out there. Off to check it out! Enjoy your weekend of warmth and lights and hot coffee!

So happy to hear that you have HOT coffee!! Yay! Enjoy the small things. Yes the fireplace in the colder weather would be a huge benefit.

So great to see you back - 4 weeks is way too long to not have power. I grew up in snow country and we never were without power more than a day or so. Hope the company gets a handle on this - your precautions sound like a really good idea. Hope this is all over for you, and you can get back to making your great quilts! XX Dixie

I'm so glad things are getting back to normal for you! Think about that gas fireplace...we had on in the last house...the only way much heat gets out is with a blower...which is electric. We went 6 days without power in -23* temps...sure wished we had a real fireplace with our 3 kids with us in the cold house! Our city here does not allow real fireplaces any more! Glad you are safe and warm, love those fabrics!

You know it's a good life when you are living without electricity but can still order fabric! Love those grays!

So happy to hear you have power again. Hope you are keeping warm and enjoying that morning cuppa!

So true that we take our modern conveniences for granted. I don't even know how I would manage to live all that time without hydro power. Glad to hear things are finally getting better and you can sew!

Hooray! Lights are on!! Wasn't that first cup of coffee wonderful? (I remember driving 40 miles to find some after Hurricane Andrew!) It's a great decision on the whole house generator!!

Yay for electricity! I'm glad to hear your life can go back to normal.

Let's hope that happens for the rest of the folks that are still without power. The news the other night said that some of them may not have electricity till Thanksgiving...so sad.

I'm so glad you've got your power back on. The images from NJ and NY are just heart breaking. I have lived in Colorado for all my adult life but I grew up in New Jersey. I still have family there. My heart goes out.

Glad things are looking up in your neighborhood. My heart goes out to the many others who are in dire straits.

Once coffee is back things start looking up!

Ohhh, those are yummy. I'm getting way too interested in grays, they are addicting. This line looks very interesting.

Stephanie: My mother lost electricity once for three weeks. You might want to add to your list: a camp coffee pot, finger foods (tuna fish, crackers, etc.), plastic forks and spoons, paper napkins, purell, a big bottle of homemade windex for wiping things down, hand can opener, etc. Looks winter up your way is just getting started. Keep warm. Keep quiting...

So glad to hear you have power again.

You should consider a treadle machine as a backup (although I love mine and use it all the time). You can even sew during storms without worrying about your machine getting fried!

Oh happy day! A generator makes very good sense. At least then you won't have to go without your morning coffee. Hope your internet is up and running soon, also your TV. In the meantime, you'll be able to get lots of sewing done without being distracted. Love the fabrics, especially the grays.

Welcome back! Love the fact that you can now have a hot cup of coffee while petting your fabrics. Will hope the internet and tv soon follow...take care!

I am glad to hear that you have power back, we depend on it too much, lol. Love your fabrics, wonderful prints. I have added to my stash and lots of plans to work on my projects after the holidays.

Yay for power!!! I'm so glad! So do you have natural gas lines to your house? I'd love for us to get a full house generator too, but we have no natural gas lines, and after this experience, I know just getting gas for the generator would be a problem. So we are still thinking on it.

Love those fabrics -- yum!

YankeeQuilter said...

Glad things are making their way back to normal for you...a cup of coffee in your favorite cup is certainly going in the right direction. Maybe you could add a treadle or hand-crank sewing machine to the list for future storms?

Rita said...

I'm so happy your power is finally back on...I've been thinking of you. Now go sew something and enjoy!

Sherri said...

I'm so happy to hear you have power again. My heart just goes out to those who have been through this horrible storm. I dropped off a quilt to the quilter last night to send back east...I hope she has it finished Monday or Tuesday so I can get it sent off...though I'm sure thousands of quilts are needed!

A warm drink and sewing--you are covered! That has been a long time without power in one year. The generator is a wise move.
Oh, those fabrics. I always get so tempted by the fabrics I see you loving on your blog.

sewprimitive karen said...

Well, at last, thank goodness. Hope the internet/TV is not far behind. The whole-house generator sounds like a wonderful idea. I know you still have a heck of a bad situation there. But oh, a warm house at last, eh?!

Very gorgeous fabrics! Glad to know things are slowly returning to normal for you and so many others. Amazing amount of damage that is keeping crews from getting power back on for everyone and frustration is mounting. I know we should all be prepared for disaster and so few of us really are in SoCalif--my husband and I talk about this every time so many are devastated but never seem to get our act together! but someday there will be another bad earthquake and the effort we make ahead of time will surely aid us then.

Glad to hear you have power and are back in "business" - the business of admiring fabric that is! I do love the stripe you showed - can see all sorts of possibilities for fussy cutting there too! Every Stitch

Welcome back, Kathie...well almost. AT least you now have lights and heat and of course your sewing machine.

Keep well.

Your fabric bundle is great! I love to buy charm packs for the same reason -- finding one or two pieces I have to have, or decide I really don't like it collection. I'm going to order a bundle from your shop--really great bundles.

I'm so happy your power is back on --what an ordeal!

How nice to hear that you are back at the sewing machine, and that you weren't without all of the modern conveniences all this time. I'll bet you just want to sit at the machine, and never leave!

So glad you have power and are playing with fabric!

Isn't it amazing what we do take for granted ? I know a little about it since my hubby and I spent 3 of the last 4 yrs unemployed we now have a job but it was only temporary so its over again in Dec. I hope we get a job soon after that or maybe we wont loose this one at all. We shall see, a job is as important as having light and heat and food and your rent paid. Im glad you can appreciate what you have, I know I do.

My nephew lives in CT and he has one of those whole house generators. It's been a godsend this last year (three times they've needed it!). I am very glad you are warm again and glad to see you back online. We must catch up. I was in Williamsburg the last three days at the quilt symposium. I must say, the 12 quilts they have on display are WORTH THE TRIP! I know you were thinking about going so I am urging you to do it. They are gorgeous!

Kathie, I've really missed you & your blog! We have a generator (mainly for my husband's bank of computer servers) but it's nice to have power when it's needed. We also put in a wood stove last winter and have a few years worth of wood stored. A person can't plan for everything nature can throw at us, but having options is really nice. Our prayers are still with those hardest hit. Welcome back!

Wonderful news. How little thing like coffee in your special mug in the morning means a lot in our lives. Glad the power is back for you. I can already hear the hum of your sewing machine - hugs Nat

Have been following the news and your updates from over here in The Netherlands and only having been without power and heat for 8 hrs at one time at the most have no experience like yours .... good to read that at least some amenities have been restored to you and life may be getting a bit better. But have to ask... how do and did you manage to blog without power and internet...?

glad to hear that your power is back on. I can not imagine the devestation. Our Friend's son in law is a line man from South Dakota. He was sent to help but I think he is in New York. When he left they said he would be gone for 2-3 weeks. It is a helpless feeling to know so many lives are devestated by the storm. Take care. janita
