I have picked up this book every day since I got and have been inspired over and over again by the quilts and with the concept to push myself AND to just take 15 minutes and have fun with my scraps. It truly is amazing what you can do with scraps as this book just keeps showing us page after page of wonderful quilts made from scraps!
15 Minutes of Play Improvisational Quilts by Victoria Findlay Wolfe of Bumble Beans blog
Its not a pattern book per se, its a book to really get your mind thinking about just having fun with quilt making, thinking outside the box, use up those scraps and producing amazing quilts. There are block
patterns in the book for you to use or just inspiration to design your own. This truly is a book that needs to be in your library if scrap baskets are anything like mine or your looking for inspiration to make quilts using what you have.
The surprising thing about this book is that so many of the quilts are traditional quilts! She has just chosen to work in brighter colors and most of the time making her own "fabric" by just piecing together scraps. And we all have scraps right! Or pieces that we could cut up and make our own scraps just to sew them back together to make fun pieced fabrics!
Ok so your probably thinking thats not my style...well I have been inspired/intrigued by this type of work for a while. Every once in a while I just have to have fun and give it a go. Look at the tumbler quilt in the middle, look familiar? YUP I made that!!!!! ( page 67) its from Victorias scraps she gave away a few years ago on her blog You know I love tumblers so I decided to piece the scraps together then I cut out tumblers shapes. (funny this is when the go cutter just hit the market and this quilt was the talk of go cutter yahoo group! look you could piece scraps together and then cut out the tumbler, I did it the old fashion way!) Victoria was in awe and she recognized fabrics from her DD's clothes in my blocks, how could I keep the quilt? so I put it in a box and mailed it to her as a surprise! Well to my surprise look what she turned the quilt into! Just wonderful love that blue border fabric really set off the tumbler quilt! who would imagine a few years later she would write a book about this type of piecing and include my quilt I made a few years ago in her book.....
Here is my favorite quilt in the book, the star was made by Tonya Ricucci, you know her from Lazy Gal Quilting blog . Victoria made the background fabrics and finished the quilt. I have followed Tonya's blog for years and years and years! Again not a quilter you would think I would be inspired by but I am. Just look at this quilt , very traditional quilt pattern. I need to make one of these. Just look at how scrappy that quilt is. just so me! mine would probably have a cheddar fabric as the background though not pieced but hey thats what quilt making is about options! Yes, I have learned to never say never anymore....maybe mine will be pieces cheddars so I can use many of my favorite cheddars :)
Thanks Victoria for a very inspirational book and yes I agree with you on your acknowledgement pages thanks to Tonya and Gwen Marston for pushing me out of my comfort zone sometimes and just have fun and play with the fabrics.
and here is a sneak peak on what I am working on now check back tomorrow :)

I have been following the 15 minutes of play and will get the book next time I place an order at the Amazon. I love both of Victoria and Tonya's work...
Thanks for showing us this book - looks like it will be going on the Christmas list... :-)
Forget Christmas list - decided to order it right now lol (it can be one of Glyn's Christmas presents, so I can share it...)
I have to get that book too, it looks fabulous and will be because Victoria made it!!! Yes, you need to do a cheddar star that would look fabulous! I will be back tomorrow, looks a little like Christmas! xo
What a cool idea to use our favorite fabrics as scraps until they are all the way gone! I sure do have a pile of my faves just waiting for a chance to use them up! Love the little tumbler you made...
Thanks Kathie! That seems like yesterday you made those little tumblers! that was 3 years ago! ;-) Time flies, and FABRIC FLIES, when you are having fun!
The green reds... YUM...Can't wait to see! I think we connected over turkey reds... ;-)
Wow oh wow!! What absolutely fun quilts!!! Another quilt to add to my already very, very long "make it someday list"!!!
The red and green is lovely - as always you inspire many!!
Blessings
Gorgeous reds and greens; can hardly wait to see more!
Your tumblers in Victoria's quilt are wonderful. You're right; the combo of traditional patterns with unconventional fabrics choices and/or made fabric is fabulous.
Looks like Christmas!
Kathie - how exciting!!! I've heard raves about this book - can't wait to see it! Your new red and green looks yummy :)!

What fun quilts! That is really cool that your gift quilt to her ended up in the book! I love the star. I hope you do make it--I would love to watch!
And you have me intrigued about your new project.
according to UPS mine will be here tomorrow...oh yeah, i ordered it a month ago as i looked like a winner to me! thanks for a sneak peek!
My hard copy is still in the mail, but I've seen a digital copy of the book and it really is fabulous!! So much inspiring eye candy and great instructions. And one of my quilts is in the book too, very excited about that :)
I love your quilt in this book, particularly the poison green alternate tumbler. How exciting to have your quilt in a book - congratulations!
Woohoo! it *is* a fabulous book and I love seeing quilts by some of my favorite bloggers in there, inc you! yes, that blue border with the triangles is fab on the tumbler quilt.
Your project looks great Kahie. Maybe I have to buy the book too. I like her blog.
Thanks! I ordered this book. I love it! I have a lot of fabric i bought early in my quilting... And my tastes have changed. I think scrappy created fabric can make it interesting. As Bonnie Hunter says "if the fabric is still ugly, you haven't cut it small enough!"
hohohoh...thanks for the idea!...love it!!
I just purchased Victoria's book, 15 Minuters of Play. I agree, it is inspiring. I love piecing together new fabric. I make lots of crumb blocks. I have enough blocks sewn to make a big quilt now. Maybe I will cut up some of those blocks and make that star quilt in her book.
I always seem to learn something new when I check out your blog. Thanks so much for all the info.
