My pattern for the appliqué blocks is from an antique quilt block. I have decided not to cut out the center circle. The quilt will eventually be a queen size quilt with an applique border, my plans right now to reproduce one I saw on an antique quilt in the book Quilts and Quiltmakers covering Connecticut. one of my favorite quilt history books btw.
To answer a few questions...I baste my blocks with thread and use general chalk pencil . I like to do needleturn applique it works for me.
Yesterday I appliqued the one block, my real goal is one a week, maybe two :)

It,is beautiful Kathy. I use the same back basting method. Once I started this method, I have never turned back.
This is going to be one beautiful quilt!
great blocks. I love red and white applique and I've done several fluer di lis - love them!
What a beauty this one is--Are you doing "cutwork" on them...you are a brave snipper! Julierose
Beautiful! One a week is a good goal, especially if it will be queen size...we will cheer you on!
All those inside corners might break me out in a relapse of shingles LOL!! Looks great.
What a beautiful block and a realistic goal.
These are so pretty. I have the book too and it's fantastic. I've just recently started doing the thread basting and I like it better than pins.
This will be a gorgeous quilt when it's all done.
Oh Kathie. You take my breath away here!
Kathie it is absolutely beautiful. You do really nice work. Hugs
You never cease to amaze me, Kathie! I'm constantly in awe of all you do. This going to be a beautiful quilt and making one a week is a terrific goal.

I love this block and even more so with that gorgeous fabric...it is going to be a great quilt
What a wonderful block. I love to applique also. Love the high contrast in quilts, wonderful!
Do you think you will be able to pace yourself, or will you get going on it and just want to keep doing more? That is something I struggle with--or I fall off the pace all together and a project gets buried and forgotten for too long. But you never have that problem, do you? : )
Stunning use of these wonderful fabrics. You go girl!
Wow, I love these blocks. It's going to be a stunning quilt!
wow! this is going to be a gorgeous quilt! love these blocks.:)
I love the fabric you are using. I just finished my first Hawaiian applique block, also red and white. I back-basted it before needleturning, and I enjoyed the whole process. I look forward to seeing your progress!
Love the fabrics, this is going to be lovely. It's great to have some applique on the go, it's so portable. Just ordered this book, I have a few of the 'state' books already.
Beautiful blocks Kathy! This will be a gorgeous quilt!
very pretty. they good so far on your design wall. I would do needle turn too.
I love the red and white applique, be still my heart!
Gorgeous! You are so speedy with your applique--I am a snail.
This will be a beautiful quilt when finished. I am working on a Sue Garmen pattern, I do freezer paper applique, I just can't get the hang of needle turn. My points and curves with needle turn are very ugly.
