Its time to bind my crumbler quilt, I really had a hard time finding a fabric for binding I liked on the front as much and to go with the back, I think this is it...
I was originally going to use the grey I used on the sides. My goal is to do one binding a week, maybe then I can catch up!
Whats on the cutting table this am... look at the basket, those are the left over pieces after I cut from the strips the pieces I need, what do you see?  I see makings for a little quilt :)
just had to share the progress and adding in those darker beiges just makes the quilt more me in mho. Love the aged look in quilts I make, I am always striving for it!  here is a tip....
I usually will put fabrics up on the design wall that I am considering using in a quilt that are questionable at first as if I think they will work or not before I start cutting them up.  this has saved me from cutting a lot of fabrics up that I wouldn't wind up using.  Mixing blues is tricky sometimes and this blue one is  still questionable to me.
funny how I always stayed away from blues before now its one of the first colors I look for when buying fabrics.  Do you have a color you rarely bought and now wish you had lots of?

Did you see the post by Marisa at Quilt Otaku?  She shared lots of links to the Tokyo quilt show.
go make a cup of tea or coffee and be prepared to spend an hour  being inspired and amazed at all those   incredible quilts.  Wow....

I think it looks just great. The tanned color gives warmth.

I miss you and Lorre and I keep dreaming of fabrics in L

I think that color looks perfect with the tumblers.

I too think it looks great Kathy. I love your projects.

I really like the darker creams/tans you added...gives it warmth and makes it look older. A basket of goodness for a tiny quilt! FUN!

Your blue quilt is looking great! What is questionable to you in it? Good luck of your goal of one binding a week!

I LOVE this quilt! Simple but so effective. How big is your design wall?

Looks great. Blue is my favorite color, so I've been drooling over this one!

I like the addition of the beiges...it gives it more interest in mho. Good luck with the binding goal...not my favorite part of the process.

It looks like it works to me. You have a great eye for color, so go with it!

Love what's on the cutting table!

I like the addition of the tans - just perfect. It's funny - it seems that I buy way more blues than I actually use. Maybe I should consider a blue and white quilt!

I love blues and I think all of your blues play happily together! Especially with those beiges--I just finished and am tying my Blues-ey quilt which uses tons of blues and they all like each other...Beautiful piece, Kathie...Julierose

quilt is just beautiful. Brown is the color I used to hate and avoid and now I wish I had tons.

Love your binding choice!!
You are making so much progress on your blue and white!! I still think it looks modern, at least on my computer screen:)

Thumbs up on the binding fabric choice!

A binding a week...you go girl! I'm trying for one a month...

As for color I wish I had been buying more of? Purple....

Love the binding you've selected for the Crumbler quilt.

Initially I didn't think the blue and white(?) quilt was 'you'. I've changed my mind - LOL - now it's all YOU. I love the additions of the tans and beiges.

I like your blue, white and cream blocks - very nice. It seems I don't buy much red fabric even though I love quilts with red. I plan to remedy that situation!!

Great projects! Auditioning the fabrics on your design wall is such a great idea. Hmm, I wish I had more spring green fabrics.
Happy quilting,
Judy

That deep gold color is a great binding choice. I love mustardy golds and can't resist them in the stores. Good thing my LQSs don't get in too many or I'd be broke.
Your blue quilt is fabulous--I love the addition of the darker shades. Of course those scraps are calling to be made into a mini! Can't wait to see it. : )
I think I go through spurts with colors. Right now I am low on greens and for a while I had so many, I think I reigned in the buying of them and now I need them.

Oh! I love the blue/beige/shirtings quilt you are working on! Blue has never actually been one of my favorite colors, but I do love this one. Crisp and fresh, really nice.

Your Crumbler Quilt and your blue and white project are both gorgeous! I wish I could see how you quilted your Crumbler. I'm thinking about how to quilt mine.

LOL. Isn't that the hardest part about really scrappy quilts - what to do for the binding? I love your choice - that's a gorgeous piece of fabric! I love that color.

Your blue and white quilt is also a stunner. I love the range of color and value you've used - genius. :)

Perfect cheddar for the binding! I rarely use blue in any large amount, though it is looking pretty fantastic in your mix :) There have been some rusts and oranges I wish I'd bought!

Nancy said...

Really like your binding choice.
I think my color would either brown or cheddar.
I never bought much and now really like it.

Taryn said...

I don't think you can go wrong with a cheddar binding on a scrap quilt. I am impressed that you have a backlog of quilts that just need their binding.

Lovely projects! I have lots of blues but not many reds. I've been on a mission the last couple of years to remedy that! Bind away!

Great choice for your binding! Love all of your little quilts, too.

No surprise, but I LOVE your "blues" quilt. It looks very you, even though you've not used much blue before. It think the darker blues and tans look good.

Love your crumbler quilt. That fabric looks good with it.

My new fave color is orange. I'm looking at it with new eyes lately. Just goes to show, never say never, huh? :)

I love your binding choice. I agree about the blues. Your quilt is really coming along. Hugs

it would be gray, i don't have much at all, a few FQs maybe, but it is oh so neutral and goes with so many things...oh, and orange...i am so not an orange person but it always whispers to me when i walk by it in the store...tee hee

Love your progress on this one - its really antique modern, and very appealing! I think my daughters would like this one, so will have to keep it in mind. Really nice indigos are very hard to find, so am always on the lookout for them!

Your quilt is growing so nicely! Love the blues. It is a fresh quilt.

What great progress you have made Kathie. Love the little tumbler quilt, the binding will be perfect. I have a huge stash of fabric but never the right shade when you most need it. I seriously depleted the purples some time ago and need to restock.

I was wondering how the tan would work in this quilt, but it has added a great dimension, good for you trying this, it has worked well!!!

Janet said...

Adding the tans has added depth to the quilt, it's gorgeous. Imagine how many finished quilts you'll do if you do manage to bind one a week, that's quite exciting.

I think you binding choice is perfect, and I do love the quilt you are working on. I used to purchase blues almost exclusively, but now I am finding red appearing more and more in the quilts I make.

What a good idea to bind a quilt each week. I have a little pile of quilts that need binding, I should do the same. I love your crumbler top, it's really fun!
